Jane, over the years I have aquired quite a collection of "wrong" certificates as well as "right" ones from the GRO. A very useful exercise and perhaps in particular for others researching the same family name would be the inclusion of a "postit" note added to the certificate reference on FreeBMD with the relative details as shown on any certificate. In this particular instance the inclusion of the fact that this lady was married and 29 years of age would be most helpful. Look out for the little envelope symbols shown on the FreeBMD index references. With reference to the GRO it's been a while since I last ordered a certificate but it always pays to play "dumb" even if you are pretty sure you have right index entry. So when applying make it as if you do not know the volume or page number and the GRO will do a reference check a year on either side of the date you provide. You nominate for example that your lady in this instance is a widow over 50 and if this cannot be matched up the GRO will send back a complete refund. cheers Bob ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jane Kelly" <jane.kelly2@virgin.net> To: <norfolk@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, December 23, 2011 10:35 PM Subject: [NFK] Elizabeth Blake died 1846 > wrong certificate but none-the-less interesting and sad. > I decided to send for what I thought must be the death of my 3 x g > grandmother in Loddon 1846. Bob, You are right. I haven't ordered one either for years and forgot you can do that. It could save a lot of money. I paid over £9. I think that is a brilliant idea to add info to FreeBMD. I wish ages were given on the index but in the early days they never were. She will turn up someday as will her errant husband. I can't find his death either, or his birth!! http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=kosmoid&id=I7510 Best wishes, Jane . ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Campbell" <rcampbell3@optusnet.com.au> To: <norfolk@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, December 23, 2011 9:09 PM Subject: Re: [NFK] Elizabeth Blake died 1846 > Jane, > over the years I have aquired quite a collection of "wrong" certificates > as well as "right" ones from the GRO. > A very useful exercise and perhaps in particular for others researching > the same family name would be the inclusion of a "postit" note added to > the certificate reference on FreeBMD with the relative details as shown on > any certificate.
