    3. Hello Elizabeth and Janice Robert Doughty did marry Mary Ann Durrant on 18/10/1842 in Guist which is in the Mitford registration district. She was d/o Thomas Durrant, shoemaker and Robert bc 1821 Corpusty was the s/o William Doughty and his wife Elizabeth. William as bc 1780 Hempstead and died from cholera aged 74 and was buried in Guist on 27/08/1854 - his wife Elizabeth died aged 65 and was buried in Guist on 24/04/1850. William and Elizabeth had three known children - Mary bc 1812 Corpusty, Robert bc 1821 Corpusty and Susanna bap 07/12/1823 Guist. Mary married Henry Bird in Guist on 27/12/1831 and Susanna married John Hill in Guist on 02/12/1845. Robert's first wife Mary Ann Durrant bore him three sons before both she and the youngest son died in 1848. Robert then remarried in Guist to Mary Ward on 04/07/1853 and she bore him another four children. I have fairly comprehensive family trees for Mary, Robert and Susanna if they are of interest to Janice or anyone else connected to this family. This Doughty family inhabited Guist from about 1823 until 1861 but don't know if they connected to Janice's Doughty family from the Walpoles. Happy New Year to everyone on the Norfolk list! There is a death of a Mary Ann Doughty in the Sept 1/4 of 1846 in the Erpingham reg dist , which is made up of parishes a little further along the coast . There is a March 1/4 1845 marriage of a Robert Doughty to an Elizabeth Abraham in the Erpingham reg dist ......and a death in the Dec 1/4 of 1846 of Elizabeth in the Wisbech reg dist which does cover the Walpoles . By chance in the 1841 census for West Beckham there is a family of Robert Doughty aged 40 , carpenter, Y, with children Robert, 11, Ann, 10, Elizabeth , 9, Lydia , 7, Sophia, 5, Louisa, 3 , and with them is Elizabeth Abraham, 20 , FS , Y. . I think this looks like the second marriage of Robert aged 40 , b c 1800, who may well be a recent widower in 1841 , to the 20 year old Elizabeth Abraham . If Robert Nicholas was born in Walpole there is no absolute reason why he should have been married there . life is hard . soften it with a cat \\\=^..^=/// ----- Original Message ----- From: "Janice Doughty" <adoughty01@optusnet.com.au> To: <norfolk@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 28, 2011 11:17 PM Subject: [NFK] UPDATING NAMES DOUGHTY > Hello Listers, > > Updating names:- > > DOUGHTY > SAILER > CHILVERS > GATHERCOLE > GRIFFIN > SEEKING > BURCHAM > > The above families hail from Walpole St Peter, Walpole St Andrews, > Towngreen Wymondham, Terrington St Clements. > > James DOUGHTY > Married Ann STAILER in 23rd Nov 1785 of the parish of Terrington St > Clement, Witnesses were Bona EASTER and John OCKLEY Their son:- > > Robert DOUGHTY > Married Alice GATHERCOLE on 14th May 1807 in the parish of Terrington St > Clement by Vicar Ambrose Goode. 3. Good Morning Elizabeth and Carol, Yes, I did find the marriage of a Robert Doughty to Mary Ann Durrant and was about to investigate to see if this could have been the first marriage of Robert Nicholas Doughty. However, as shown by Carol, it is not my Robert N Doughty. I cannot find him on the 1841 Census. If I could find him there, then I may find his first wife. From 1851 up until the 1881 Census, his birth is given as abt 1820 (in fact it is 1819) and he was born in Walpole, Norfolk. In 1841 he would have been 22, I wonder if he was either in the Navy or Army when the 1841 Census was taken?
