Elizabeth, This is definitely my family. I do have this info and am desperate to go back beyond his father, Thomas Rockett who maintains he was born in Wendling. I have searched the adjoining parish records available on Family Search in images. I can find Thomas's wife's baptism years before his alleged birth but nothing for him, anywhere. I have found a chap named Zachariah Rockett in London , manufacturer of Coach Lace, who had his children in London and Exeter. As Zachariah is unusual in the Rockett line, but does run through it I wondered if there could be some relationship between these 2 families. I know its a long shot but in this game you never know!! This couple seem also to have had William in 1835 at Wendling , also an Elizabeth in 1826. Although freereg is incomplete, the grouping of the Rocketts is very much in the Shipdam , Bunwell , Tibenham area of Norfolk . life is hard . soften it with a cat \\\=^..^=/// ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jan Rockett" <jan.rockett@ntlworld.com> To: <norfolk@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, December 29, 2011 12:42 AM Subject: [NFK] New Year Norfolk names list >I am looking for families by the names of > Brunton...................Swaffham > Rockett...................Wendling, Sporle, Pentney, Swaffham, Scarning, > Narborough > Reed.......................Gayton Thorpe, Middleton > Carter......................Saham Toney, Shipdham > > and all their various misspellings over the years > > If anyone has these names in their tree I would be very happy to swap > information etc. > I am especially looking for the baptism of Thomas Rockett bpt c1805 > Wendling...I cannot find this anywhere so need help. > > Happy New Year everyone > > Jan > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > NORFOLK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NORFOLK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Jan, Just a thought- do you know if Thomas was the eldest in his family ? By that I mean have you found any likely Rockett families in Wendling Fransham etc and surrounding villages with children born in the years when you might expect his birth to be, around 1800ish? If so you might check for Thomas born to the wife in those families but under her maiden name, just in case he was born a bit before his parents married. Did you try Ovington and points in between there and Wendling as there is a Henry on the 1841 old enough to be father of Thomas if he was born around 1800. And I suppose if Scarning is in the reckoning Dereham must be too. A tricky name for being misread/spelled though. The Zachariah could just be a fad in a village, seems to have happened just as much back then as now. Rosie On 29/12/2011 11:02, Jan Rockett wrote: > Elizabeth, > This is definitely my family.
