You will have seen from the Norfolk Churches website mentioned by other respondents that the church in Northrepps does still exist The situation in Overstrand is more complicated. The medieval church dedicated to St Martin fell into the sea and a new churchyard created a little further inland; in the nineteenth century the church was again in ruins and was replaced by Christ Church (in the same churchyard). The church that you see today is a rebuilt St Martin's, including some features from the older church, and Christ Church was demolished. (The Methodist church was not built until after the period you are interested in.) I recommend Poppyland's excellent DVD "Overstrand - Our Village" which includes a visual reconstruction of Overstrand as it was in 1838. Some of the photographs in the same publishere's booklet "Poppyland - Strands of Norfolk History" may be of interest too, and there is limited background material in my own "Dictionary of Cromer and Overstrand History", though none of the Crask(e) family is mentioned. For details of these publications see www.poppyland.co.uk; you may well also find it worth searching the Cromer Museum website at http://www.culturalmodes.norfolk.gov.uk/projects/nmaspub5.asp making sure you start your search by choosing "Cromer local history and geology" from the drop-down list. -- Christopher Pipe BA DipLib MCLIP researching and indexing Norfolk history cp@wmk.demon.co.uk -----Original Message----- . . . On my mother's side - my gr-grandmother was Matilda Maud Crask, baptised in Overstrand and I am trying to get more definition into this side of the family. I believe that the family was always Church of England. 1. From the IGI I have John Crask m. Susannah Neve in Jan 1807 in Northrepps. Between 1807 & 1826, they had (at least) 11 children, 3 of whom emigrated to Australia and I have found a lot of info about them. My questions are..... - What would have been the name of the church that John & Susannah married in and these 11 were baptised in ? - does the building from this period still exist ? 2. One of John and Susannah's children, James William Crask m. Ann Susannah Emery. They had (at least) 8 children all baptised in Overstrand. Again..... - What would have been the name of the church that these 8 were baptised in ? - does the building from this period still exist ? My Crasks, at least back to John bap 1769 have no "e" but I can see that Craske is also common in the area. There are probably cross-links that I don't yet understand. I would be very pleased to hear from any Lister who has an interest in the Crask(e) familes.
