Thank you Stan, I will have a closer look at the web site and give it a try. If they draw a blank on the birth father's name I will at least know that the person had probably assumed the identity of the foster parents. The only other way I could think of to trace the person was from the records of a primary school in Norfolk, but I suspect the date, being more recent than 100 years, may mean the relevant registers are unavailable because of data protection, even if they are lodged with NRO.
