SAMUEL MATTHEWS, he was a tailor (worked in Great Yarmouth, then Heigham Norfolk). Last known address was Heigham 1881 census. Can you access the London gazette online? Hi, yes the London Gazette is online . Just google London Gazette and work your way to the History bit and search the archive . But start earlier the first reference I found to Samuel comes on 14th March 1876, " In the county court of Norfolk held at Great Yarmouth in the matter of proceedings for liquidation by arrangement etc instituted by Samuel Matthews of Great Yarmouth , tailor . " The Norfolk Record Office has a possible document BR 164/26 , which mentions deeds re a tenement conveyed by Samuel Matthews to Bullard and sons , 1870 . And further reference in the same document of 6 rods of land in City St , Heigham , gardens in Union Place, Heigham but this is earlier 1843 . There may be more in The Bury and Norwich Post but the 19th C newspaper site has many references to Samuel Matthews .and it would take a dedicated eye to sift through them all . There may be more in the London Gazette too and under Mathews or Matthew or Saml , or variants . life is hard . soften it with a cat \\\=^..^=/// ----- Original Message ----- From: "tam smith" <tamiwell@bigpond.com> To: <norfolk@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 14, 2011 1:16 PM Subject: Re: [NFK] fraud or business troubles 1880's > SAMUEL MATTHEWS, he was a tailor (worked in Great Yarmouth, then Heigham > Norfolk).
