Likewise to Nan, Stephen. Maybe people are using a Norfolk Facebook page instead these days. So many County Lists have migrated to FB. I've not yet got my head around it though. O' Happy Day !! I am on just 2 other lists and there has been nothing from them either . Perhaps it just needs subscribers to send a message to their lists to get things going again. I cannot see how Facebook can work in the same way and cannot get on with it anyway. Long live Rootsweb Lists ! Hi Stephen You cannot post an attachment to a rootsweb list as they do not accept them You can either post an image to a rootsweb board or post it online on one of the many free hosting sites, such as Flickr and then post a link to it in a post to the list Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 27-Oct-16 8:03 AM, Steve Cook wrote: > Thanks Nan & Diane, at least I know it's not me but yes the activity has > been dropping noticeably. > > Do you know the name of the Facebook group or have a link to it - I'm > active on FB and that might be just my cop of tea :-) > > A second question, do we have any hand-writing experts here?, I have a > marriage certificate which is proving hard to read some of the details, > but I'm sure someone familiar with old Norwich might be able to > decipher, I'm happy to post a copy but not sure of the rule and > guidelines around such things? > > Thanks again > > Stephen > Wellington > NZ

This is the Cambridge & Suffolk list https://www.facebook.com/groups/522135831187161/ I'm sure someone on there will know of a Norfolk one. -- Good Luck Antony Lambert The Hurst Pages www.c5d.co.uk/hurst.php
I am equally astonished as I have not unsubscribed and yet this is pretty much the first mail I have had from the list in months. The list archives had also seemed devoid of much but spam. I hope the list returns to normal, having feared a potential move to commercialise. The expertise and insight of members has been invaluable. Not seen the fb page , but I can't see how that could build a searchable archive of member knowledge in the same way. Hey Everyone; I wondered if anyone had any information on William Howlett, born 1690, Tivitshall, Norfolk, England and his wife Elizabth Hodson, 1694 also of Tivitshall, Norfolk. They are my direct ancestors. Thanks Lisa
Has anyone access to the 1841 Census for Downham Mkt, Norfolk. This is a long shot as it seems that my Mary Ann Johnson came from Downham Mkt. Weird because I come from London and I married in this same village. I cannot access these messages when they appear. I follow the usual procedure of clicking on the original envelope or paperclip. My screen then shows a few envelopes and the envelope contains just a list of messages, which I cannot access. Can anyone look up in the 1851 census to see if there is a Henry Harper married to a Mary Ann (nee Johnson) I have a marriage in 1841 in Swaffham but they were in London by 1854.
I have a Henry Harper, occupation Brushmaker married to a Mary Ann Johnson living in Hoxton, London in 1854. I have now found a marriage for a Mary & Henry in Swaffham in 1841. As I am unsure if they are my ancestors if anyone has access to the records in Swaffham I would be grateful for any feedback. Brenda

Many thanks Bev and all transcribers. This is one of the few proper messages I have had from the list in a while. Does this mean everything is back to normal after the downtime? Rosie
Hi I am writing to provide an update on the 1891 census project. Four further pieces have been uploaded to the on line database and are now searchable for free on the main Freecen site at http://www.freecen.org.uk These are Pieces *RG12/1519 Coslany *which covers the parishes of Norwich, St Augustine, St Clement, *RG12/1527 Mancroft *which covers the parishes of Norwich, St Stephen, St Peter Mancroft *RG12/1532 West Wymer *which covers part of Earlham, Heigham *RG12/1559 Walsingham *which covers the parishes of Bale, Barney, Briningham, Brinton, Burgh Parva, East Barsham, Egmere, Field Dalling, Great Snoring, Great Walsingham, Gunthorpe, Hindringham, Houghton St Giles, Little Walsingham, Lower Green, Melton Constable, North Barsham, Saxlingham This means that there are now 420,425 (95.1%) 1891 Norfolk census records available to search free on line. Many thanks to all the volunteers who have kindly given up their free time to assist with the project without their help this information would not be available. Please see the main Freecen site or my website (see my signature for a link) for details of which pieces are on line. Finally don’t forget that a complete transcription for the Norfolk 1861 and 1871 census is available on the FreeCen site. Having trouble to view the images... Go ahead and click me. 0% Down - Veterans & Military Only His tone made me suspicious. âOf course youâll be there yourself.â âWell, Iâll certainly try. What I called up about is âââ âWait a minute,â I interrupted. âHow about saying youâll come?â âWell, the fact is â the truthof the matter is that Iâm staying with some people up here in Greenwich, and they rather expect me to be with them to-morrow. In fact, thereâs a sort of picnic or something. Of course Iâll do my very best to get away.â i hid an unrestrained âhuh!â and he must have heard me, for he went on nervously: âWhat I called up about was a pair of shoes I left there. I wonder if itâd be too much trouble to have the butler send them on. You see, theyâre tennis shoes, and Iâm sort of helpless without them. My address is care of B. F. âââ I didnât hear the rest of the name, because I hung up the receiver. After that I felt a certain shame for Gatsby â one gentleman to whom I telephoned implied that he had got what he deserved. However, that was my fault, for he was one of those who used to sneer most bitterly at Gatsby on the courage of Gatsbyâs liquor, and I should have known better than to call him. The morning of the funeral I went up to New York to see Meyer Wolfsheim; I couldnât seem to reach him any other way. The door that I pushed open, on the advice of an elevator boy, was marked âThe Swastika Holding Company, â and at first there didnât seem to be any one inside. But when Iâd shouted âhelloâ several times in vain, an argument broke out behind a partition, and presently a lovely Jewess appeared at an interior door and scrutinized me with black hostile eyes. âNobodyâs in, â she said. âMr. Wolfsheimâs gone to Chicago.â The first part of this was obviously untrue, for someone had begun to whistle âThe Rosary,â tunelessly, inside. âPlease say that Mr. Carraway wants to see him. â âI canât get him back from Chicago, can I?â At this moment a voice, unmistakably Wolfsheimâs, called âStella!â from the other side of the door.âLeave your name on the desk, â she said quickly. âIâll give it to him when he gets back.â âBut I know heâs there.â She took a step toward me and began to slide her hands indignantly up and down her hips. âYou young men think you can force your way in here any time,â she scolded. âWeâre getting sickantired of it. When I say heâs in Chicago, heâs in Chicago.â I mentioned Gatsby. âOh â h!â She looked at me over again. âWill you just â What was your name?â She vanished. In a moment Meyer Wolfsheim stood solemnly in the doorway, holding out both hands. He drew me into his office, remarking in a reverent voice that it was a sad time for all of us, and offered me a cigar. âMy memory goes back to whenI first met him, â he said. âA young major just out of the army and covered over with medals he got in the war. He was so hard up he had to keep on wearing his uniform because he couldnât buy some regular clothes. First time I saw him was when he come into Winebrennerâs poolroom at .
