    1. Re: [NFK] Dunkirk in England?
    2. Hi Carol. It is unlikely to be a port in Norfolk, there are few large enough for a ship- Lynn, Yarmouth and Wells ore or less does it. Norfolk's Dunkirk is near Aylsham near the river Bure and is one of those places - like Little London- which is an end or hamlet of a village. Why it is called Dunkirk I have no idea. 3. Dear Everybody: Not sure if this was received and seeing that the list seems to be alive and well, I thought I'd try again. Does anyone know anything about the following couple who are my direct ancestors. William Howlett (1690) and Elizabeth Hodson (1694) both of Tivitshall, Norfolk, England. Much obliged Lisa

    3. Thanks Nan & Diane, at least I know it's not me but yes the activity has been dropping noticeably. Do you know the name of the Facebook group or have a link to it - I'm active on FB and that might be just my cop of tea :-) A second question, do we have any hand-writing experts here?, I have a marriage certificate which is proving hard to read some of the details, but I'm sure someone familiar with old Norwich might be able to decipher, I'm happy to post a copy but not sure of the rule and guidelines around such things? 3. Having gone back to the original document instead of my download I have been able to decipher that the ship had a 90 h.p. engine - small by today's standard no doubt but I now feel convinced that the did indeed go to Dunkirk in France. Thanks again for all the help. 3. I must admit that it is beginning to look as though it must be the Dunkirk in France. The ship was 460 tons and perhaps if it left on the morning tide and arrived on the evening tide the next day it would be possible. Thank you everyone for your help. 2. MIck Peck
    3. Hi List, Good to see the list back! I have recently bought the WW1 medals issued to George Patrick Randall and am wondering if any direct descendant would like to be reunited with them? George Patrick was born 17th March 1895 at Shotesham, the son of Jesse and Alice Randall, and was later known to live at Heddenham. He enlists as Private 12970 in 2nd Battalion, Norfolk Regiment on 1st or 2nd September 1914. If any direct descendant is interested in the medals, and I am only interested in reuniting the medals with family, please contact. On this occasion, I do hope you are wrong Facebook is okay for some things but not a patch on the lists Remember anything posted to a facebook page is gone and forgotten almost as soon as its posted, and only members can search a groups archives assuming they know the group exists in the first place Unlike rootsweb lists and boards where anyone can search all the millions of previous posts And they can be found with a google search The knowledge of list subscribers far outweighs any facebook group I have seen to date and I am a member of quite a few ;-) Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 27-Oct-16 11:11 AM, elizgh@btinternet.com wrote: > Always the peacemaker Nivard !!!!
