    3. Eileen The Quidenham baptisms for that period are available on FreeREG at www.freereg.org.uk Harriet LOVEDAY was baptised at Quidenham 17 Jul 1825, daughter of William LOVEDAY, a labourer, and Sophia David ________________________________ From: Eileen Roby <eiloon@spin.net.au> To: NORFOLK@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, 3 August 2011, 11:00 Subject: [NFK] Robert and Harriet Woods I am researching Robert Woods and Harriet Loveday. Robert was a Corn Miller and Baker. He married Harriet Loveday in 1843 and Harriet is the one I most wish to know about. The census tells me she was born in Quidenham about 1825 but I would like to know who her parents were and the correct year of her birth. Harriet gave birth to 12 children over the next 17 years all born at Kenninghall. The census also tells me that the family lived at 45 Market Place, Kenninghall so would the bakery be run from their home or from a shop. I have no idea what Kenninghall would have looked like in those early days. I hope some one can help me with this. Many thanks Eileen in Australia. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NORFOLK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. HI Gail:: Always pleased to find another British Columbian doing research in Norfolk. Your research is in the Aylsham area which is north of Norwich. To the west of Norwich is Dereham where my deceased wife's Girling family were prominent in the 1700's and 1800's. To the southwest of Norwich are the farming communities of Shropham, Merton, Hockham where my father's family were agricultural labourers from around 1800; my dad was raised in Shropham before coming to Canada in 1922. I live in North Vancouver where my wife and I grew up; she died in 2002. I have a road atlas of Great Britain and I will scan a portion of Norfolk showing all these communities. I trust summer has finally come to Courtenay which seems to be happening here. I spent 21 years in Port Alberni working for Woodward Stores from 1954-75. Have a super day. Cheers. 1. [NFK] Education in Kings Lynn c1800 - 1820
    2. Bob Vine
    3. I have a 2xGGreat Grandfather, born 1796, lived in Kings Lynn and migrated to New Zealand via Australia 1836 -1840. Evidence, by way of letters he wrote to Colonial Officials in Australia and New Zealand, is that he had received a sound education. My question is "where"? Family lore had it that it was at a nautical college in Glasgow but I can find no evidence of this - even the existence of a nautical college. Family circumstances would also seem to rule this out. I would be extremely appreciative of any assistance that could be offered with this. Bob Lower Hutt, NEW ZEALAND www.bobvine.gen.nz/genealogy

    3. Thanks Alan. I do have most of this information. What I would really like to know is if I have any living Overed relatives. When she passed away in 1959 James second wife May was living in Erpington, and the informant on her death certificate was her nephew H. Williamson. James and May had no children, and that is where the trail has gone cold. I have been hacking away at this puzzle for about 5 years now with little to go on as my mother hardly ever spoke of her family, so everything I have learned so far has been a revelation. As Overed appears to be a relatively (no pun intended) uncommon surname I was hoping someone on this list might be able to point me in the right direction. 3. Heather - a hospital history is very relevant to those connected to that particular institution, but will not have been published in a large edition numerically; personally I have found that Abebooks prices are as reasonable as you are likely to get, although if Lynn bookshops are flooded with this local interest item, it could indeed be cheaper, but not if it is scarce.
