    3. Thank you to every one who replied with information regarding my plea for help, they did indeed confirm that John LAYMAN was dead and buried on 31st Aug 1710 Unfortunately it ends a promising lead in solving a brick wall regarding the parents of my 6th Great Grandfather John LAYMAN. Dave.

    3. The Diss registers are available on line - on one of the LDS websites. You can find them at familysearch.org The burial is on page 31 of the Diss PRs and the baptism on page 30. You need to look at the records for the years 1691-1729 Baps, Mars and Burials. It is wonderful to be able to see the actual entries on line now, rather than going to your nearest LDS Family History centre and renting the relevant film - which I have been doing for the past few years. Enjoy! Regards Elizabeth Pugh Whitehorse Yukon Canada

    3. Hi Gay, Not born in 1760, but married then. This suggests she could be a sister or cousin of your John. We both need to get back another generation (at least) to find out. I don't know how common the name Barker is in Norfolk. If it is very common there could be Johns and Elizabeths all over the place with no way to tell which is ours! 3. Hi Gail, Just a thought as it is in Hoe and you have not gone any further back ( I have not looked at the register to check yet) but is it possible your Jane is an Egglington or Eggleton or variation of that name found in the area rather than an Eggert John? I expect you found all the Barkers in Swanton Morley. 1. Re: [NFK] Looking for a Spink Marriage in Aylsham (Richard)
    2. Richard
    3. I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who has replied to my request for advice. It was a complicated question and some of you are taking the trouble to look up information I already have. So as not to cause any further confusion, I will tell you what I already know. If anyone can fill in the gaps I would really appreciate it. Starting with my direct ancestors - Joseph Spink and Sarah Williamson who were married on 5 Feb 1823 in Aylsham. Before they married, Sarah had at least three illegitimate children. John , Baptised on 12 Apr 1819 - Mother's name, Sarah Wilmerson. Joseph, Baptised on 3 Dec 1820 - Mother's name, Sarah Wilderson. Anne, Baptised on 15 Sep 1822 - Mother's name Sarah Williamson. On 24 April 1842 Anne, Now calling herself Ann Spink Williamson marries Robert Spink whose family came from Burgh which is just up the road. Strangely enough, the Marriage Certificate does not show Anne's Father, the space is left blank. As a minor, she would need her parents permission to marry, so that is another mystery. Robert and Ann now go on to have four children who are listed on the 1851 census. I cannot find Baptism records for the first two, Sarah Ann aged 10 and Charlotte aged 6. Now we get to the real confusion. Elizabeth, age 4. There is a corresponding BMD Birth record in 1847 and an Aylsham Baptism record for 7 Feb 1847, Father Robert Spink, although the Mother is shown as "Sarah". This would match the age given in the 1851 census. The last child is Hannah, age 2. Again, there is a BMD Birth record in 1849 and a Baptism record for 29 April 1849, Parents, Robert and "Ann" Spink. Above it there is a Baptism record for Elizabeth Spink, same date, same parents. There is also a BMD Birth record for Elizabeth Spink in 1849. Under Elizabeth's name in the 1849 Baptism record is the date 7 Feb 1847. So the question is, are we dealing with 2 Elizabeths, born to different parents, or is it the same Elizabeth who somehow seems to have been registered and Baptised twice with the Mother's name being incorrectly entered in the first record? If it is a different Elizabeth, why is the Baptism date of the first Elizabeth written into the record of the second? If it is the same Elizabeth, why was she Baptised and registered a second time? I think I have a headache!!!

    3. Richard, Charles GRIX, son of Benjamin GRIX of Marsham married Elizabeth SPINK, daughter of Robert SPINK of Bugh on 27 September 1871 at Burgh Next Alysham. This couple have at least 7 children baptised in the same parish. There are some very rare wooden grave markers for this family (the only ones I have seen in this part of Norfolk). One branch of the family marries into the CRASKE family of Sheringham. Bertha GRIX, the grand daughter of Charles and Elizabeth, worked in Sheringham with my grandmother as drapers as young women in the 1920s. FreeREG has her as Elizabeth SPINK, baptised 7 February 1847 at Aylsham, parents Robert/Sarah. It doesn't help, but there is an online tree for this couple with 4 children - Elizabeth's details are very sketchy though - http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/l/e/w/Margaret-Lewer/WEBSITE-0001/UHP-0269.html FreeREG has the childrens' baptisms listed, but mother's maiden name isn't given. There is some activity on this name on Ancestry - http://boards.ancestry.com.au/surnames.grix/3.1/mb.ashx Memorial at Burgh next Aylsham for Elizabeth GRIX, died 29 January 1925 aged 75 years, beloved wife of Charles - http://epitaphorigins.info/Zburgh.htm Cheers Trish Nowra NSW > I have a family member called Elizabeth SPINK. 1. Re: [NFK] Looking for a Spink Marriage in Aylsham

    3. Just to make things even more complicated. The Aylsham Parish Baptism Register shows: 7 Feb 1847. Elizabeth D. of Robert & Sarah Spink. The Aylsham Parish Baptism Register shows: 29 Apr 1849. Elizabeth D. of Robert & Ann Spink. Underneath Elizabeth's name is the date 7 Feb 1847. FreeREG records this date as the date of birth which is a reasonable assumption. There is also a Baptism for Elizabeth's Sister Hannah on 29 April 1849 There is a BMD Birth record for Elizabeth Spink in 1847 and another one in 1849. It is a strange coincidence if the second Elizabeth is born on the same day that the first one is Baptised. I have heard of children being Baptised twice but not registered twice. And the Mother's names are different. I wonder what is going on? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello everybody I have a family member called Elizabeth SPINK. Born 7 Feb 1847 in Aylsham. Not a direct ancestor just filling in some gaps. I am trying to find a marriage for her and I am stuck. There are two possible ones in the BMDs in 1871 and 1875. Unfortunately, neither of them appear in the Aylsham Parish Register so I cannot identify the correct one, assuming either of them are. I cannot find her in the 1871 census and the 1871 marriage is registered in Jul-Sep quarter so she should appear in her maiden name. Using the possible surnames of spouses in FMP I did an 1881 census search and came up with one possible, married to Charles Grix (the 1871 record). She gives her birth place as Burgh next Aylsham which isn't right but everything else matches. There are a couple of other Elizabeth Spinks registered a few years earlier but that would make the ages on the census wrong.
