Very little IMHO Personal preference usually Ask a Toyota lover why they like it over say a Ford or Vauxhall Rootsmagic lovers swear by it, FTM lovers swear by it Try both and see which suits you best The ones that usually come around the top of review lists are :- Legacy FTM Rootsmagic TMG Ancestral Quest In various orders Most if not all have a free version to try Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 26/04/2014 19:12, Jans Mail wrote: > I have always used FTM but have a copy of Rootsmagic. > What are the differences in the two? > > Jan
<snip> Many years ago there was a book that acted as a directory of all sorts of things. A great deal of time before the publication deadline anyone could submit an entry of who they were, their contact details and what lines they are researching. Then, when it was published it contained sections for various bits of information, with one being a genealogists section. Are you thinking of "The Genealogical Services Directory - Family & Local History Handbook" ? If so , it's currently available (Edition 14) from www.genealogical.co.uk . I have no connection with this web site nor it's products and services . Andy

Well personally I would not bother with either your rootsmagic or FTM PAF does all I need :-) And takes twins or triplets or whatever else I want it to Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 26/04/2014 18:52, Penelope Blake wrote: > The only thing I can suggest is this. > > - Export your database to Gedcom > - Get FTM disc and throw in it the bin > - Install copy of Rootsmagic 6 > - Import Gedcom > - Put in a shared fact for birth > > :) > > (Sorry, I love RM and refuse to use anything else, even if I was paid to use it)
From OED twin, v.2 a. intr. To bring forth two children or young at a birth; to bear twins. You might have one born one day and the other on the next but you can't have twins born in different years unless the first was on December 31st and the other on the 1st Jan Or is that what you meant Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 26/04/2014 18:55, Rosemary Jones wrote: > They can be born on different days and even different years. > > Rosemary >

Hi Jan Perhaps I misunderstand your problem, but entering them as born on the same day should not be a problem What were you trying to do that you were unable to? Hi Dina Time of birth for twins goes all the way back to the start of civil registration in 1837 Unfortunately some registrars misinterpreted the instructions for the first few years and entered a time on all births So finding a time on an early certificate hints of a twin but does not prove they were, whereas a birth with no time almost certainly means they were not a twin That does not answer the question of how to enter twins in FTM (I presume FTM 12 is actually FTM 2012?) But I can't see a reason why you couldn't enter twins anyway Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 26/04/2014 18:00, mrs d smith wrote: > One twin I always older.
