    1. [NFK] Robert GOODERSON
    2. Keith Drage via
    3. I am trying to make a connection between a Robert GOODERSON baptised 26 MAR 1787 in Beeston next Mileham, Norfolk the son of Thomas GOODERSON and Phoebe SWINGELL, and one that is in London at least the 1820's onwards, or failing that they are connected, where else they fit in. In London (St. Marylebone) I have a marriage between Robert GOODERSON and Ann HAWLETT (or possibly HAMLETT) in January 1820 with witnesses John THOMPSON and Mary CROOK. In London I have a set of four children with a father Robert GOODERSON (Painter, bookseller) (who died sometime before 1855 - deceased on one of the marriage certificates) and a mother Ann (born 1797 in Swaffham, Norfolk) appearing as follows: 1) Thomas Youngman GOODERSON (artist, portrait painter), born about 1821 (married Emily WESTWOOD in June 1845 and died in Paris in 1859) 2) Robert GOODERSON (Artist, print labourer, print colourer, letter carrier GPO), born about 1825 (married Emily EVANS in Dec 1846) 3) Eliza GOODERSON, born about 1831 (married Frederick HARRISON (Printer, compositor) in July 1855) 4) Harriot GOODERSON, born date unknown (married John CUTHBERT (Soldier) in September 1849). This is possibly a Harriet baptised in St. Marylebone in 1822 but the father's profession does not seem to match. I have not been able to find any census entries for this person to determine real age. 5) Maria GOODERSON (Milliner, born about 1831 married William Thomas HIBBS (Distiller) in July 1864) 6) James GOODERSON (Letter carrier, sorter, paper keeper money order office GPO), born 1837 (married Esther Jane JERMEY) I would note that all the names above fit with names used by the known family in Norfolk. I have failed to find any of these in census entries prior to the 1861 census, and I have no baptism entries, apart from the possibility mentioned above, and these would be the key to linking them back to Norfolk. I would love to have baptisms for any of the above, or any entries for them in the 1841 census or 1851 census, as these would help prove a connection with Norfolk. regards Keith Drage Swindon UK

    3. Keith - if you EVER think of migrating to Windows 8, think again, then don't. If you must upgrade (and personally I think Win 7 is far superior) go direct to Win 10 and avoid all the heartache (a techie term for a bad program). There are glitches in Win 10 which require that you run most genie programs as an Administrator, so stay with safe Win 7. I have both and know which I prefer.... 3. Only you can make the decision of what program you use, based on the level of support you believe you need, and the features you want to use. It may be that you do not need any support, and are working with just a local copy of FTM - then nothing says that will stop working in 12 months time (I'm still using the 2005 version of FTM that was released in 2004), and I expect to carry on using it when I migrate from windows 7 to windows 8. Conversely, part of your thoughts with migrating to any new software package should include thinking about whether you can migrate to something else when the support disappears. That particularly applies if you are used something relying on web-based support. You certainly do not want to go to any package or product that means reentering all your data when you go to a new package, so carefully consider what standards are supported (and how well they are supported) for both import and export of data. regards Keith Drage Swindon UK On 24/12/2015 01:08, Anne Boss via wrote: > Thank you all for your replies - yes i did receive their Christmas offer. > I will look further into those website mentioned. > At the moment I’m running FTM and recently received a message from > Ancestry to say that they are retiring the FTM program end of year. > Thanks again > and Merry Christmas to all > Regards > Anne > >> On 24 Dec 2015, at 7:48 am, Don Farnham via <norfolk@rootsweb.com> wrote: >> >> Perhaps I should have mentioned - apart from the Gallery (pictures are >> uploaded individually), this all from 1 gedcom file. >> >> Don Farnham >> >> >> On 23/12/2015 21:42, Don Farnham via wrote: >>> If you do have a look, click on Places, then Abbotsbury. >>> >>> I am just starting to add the maps on. >>> >>> Don Farnham >>> >>> >>> On 23/12/2015 21:15, Don Farnham via wrote: >>>> I have two websites with them - have a look at www.norster.org.uk - let >>>> me know what you think.# >>>> >>>> The cost is around £12 per year which I think is very reasonable. >>>> >>>> Don Farnham >>>> >>>> >>>> ------------------------------- >>>> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NORFOLK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >>>> >>> ------------------------------- >>> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NORFOLK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >>> >> >> ------------------------------- >> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NORFOLK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >> > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NORFOLK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

    3. Ann, This doesn't mean that you should remove your tree from Ancestry. All it means is that we go back to the way we did things before the 2012 release of FTM. Work in Ancestry, and then duplicate what you've done in FTM. Yes, it's annoying, but there's at least 12 months to see what eventuates. 3. If you go to the mail rootsweb archive search page at: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/search and enter "genealone" as a search term you will find this has been discussed (briefly) on a number of other lists. You can also see reviews of various programs at: http://www.gensoftreviews.com/ which includes genealone (somewhat minimally) but should give you something to compare against. Also have a look at: http://alternativeto.net/software/genealone/ Both above sites seems to make an attempt to do some user based comparison. regards Keith Drage Swindon UK (To add some Norfolk content, currently researching GOODERSON and FINCHAM) On 23/12/2015 10:37, Nivard Ovington via wrote: > Hi Anne > > I presume you received the invite/offer which I also received from genealone > > It offers a free *limited* offer for adding 50 persons and 10 images, > then you have to pay > > Personally I can't see an advantage over several free sites for > uploading a tree > > Whether its trustworthy I can't say > > Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > > On 23/12/2015 03:47, Anne Boss via wrote: >> Hi listers >> Does any one know anything about the above mentioned website - Genealone.com <http://genealone.com/> >> for storing your family tree using their programme. >> Thank you >> Regards >> Anne > --- > This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. > https://www.avast.com/antivirus > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NORFOLK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the mess

So posting this to see if these makes any connections. Hannah GOODERSON was born in Marham, Norfolk on 22 Jan 1869 (daughter of Henry GOODERSON and Elizabeth DYE) On 24 Oct 1894 she married Robert CLARKE (variously Groom and Ostler), probably born 1871 in Wiggenhall St. German (son of William CLARKE) I've tracked them through baptisms, 1901 census, to 1911 census where they are at 3 Wellington Terrace, Walsoken, with the following children (1911 census identifies 7 living children and two dead) - Gladys CLARKE, born 28 Feb 1895 in Marham, Norfolk - Herbert CLARKE, born 28 Feb 1897 or Sep 1896 in Marham, Norfolk (died possibly Sep 1897) - Willie CLARKE, born 17 Oct 1897 in Marham, Norfolk - George CLARKE, b. 12 Sep 1900 in Marham, Norfolk - Harry CLARKE, b. 20 Jul 1902 in Marham, Norfolk - Robert Ernest CLARKE, b. 20 May 1904 in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire - Rita (or Reta, Reita) CLARKE, b. 28 Feb 1906 in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire (possibly married John J. 3. I do wish all these sites would identify the source of their records, and whether they are transcripts (and if so who created the transcript), or the original record. What The Genealogist does tell you is a range of dates and that these are marriages only. If you compare that with the list on GENUKI for Phillimore at http://www.origins.org.uk/genuki/NFK/norfolk/church/phillimore.shtml where they are the same, leads me to the suspicion that these are just the contents of the published Phillimore marriages for Norfolk, which are available from many other sources. If so the Phillimore marriages are only an abbreviated transcript, and do not for example list witnesses. Note that at least 3 volumes of Phillimore marriages are available online (see the above webpage), although obviously they may not have indexes as a result. There may be more since this page was last updated so it is worth an online search. Both parishes appear in Boyds marriage index from the Society of genealogists (up to 1837), so you can search this either directly at the Society of Genealogists website (if a member) or on Findmypast. They also should appear on the Norfolk Marriages CD (1801 - 1837) from NFHS. For completeness, neither parish is on NORs. As regards Family Search, these are in my understanding just the Norfolk microfilms that LDS created on behalf of the Norfolk Record Office, and as such they have not performed all that work, nor any of the recent work. Further constraints exist in that permission may not have been granted by the parish incumbent at the time for LDS to do this work. So the fact that the Norfolk Record Office may list a microfilm on their list of parish records, does not mean that the LDS has it. To a certain extent you can audit this yourself: - NROCAT will tell you whether NRO have the registers and whether they have been microfilmed (and give you the NRO call numbers). - on Family Search if you Search Catalog (rather than Records) you can find out what is in the LDS library, and the entries will conveniently cross reference the NRO call numbers. - as I say, any microfilms (for Norfolk) so listed should be on the Family Search website and if they are not, then the LDS may be able to do something about it. Further the NRO list identifies that Grimston incumbents have not given permission for the Microfilm to be available beyond 1712. I have looked at Gayton Thorpe registers in the past. It was a long time ago. From the NRO list you will see there are large gaps - I think partly that might be because some of the records appear in, or with, the East Walton registers, but someone else will need to confirm, or correct me on this, because it is so long ago I cannot remember. The NROCAT record is a bit confusing on this. Note that Freereg does have entries for both these parishes but you need to check the range of dates covered (if you have not done so already) - you have not specified the dates you are interested in. regards Keith Drage Swindon UK On 18/12/2015 13:53, xpn11 via wrote: > Your wisdom please on this .
