    1. [NFK] Norfolk 1891 FreeCen Project Update July 2016
    2. Bev Howlett via
    3. Hi I am writing to provide an update on the 1891 census project. Two further pieces have been uploaded to the on line database and are now searchable for free on the main Freecen site at http://www.freecen.org.uk These are Pieces RG12/1518 Coslany which covers the parishes of Hellesdon Norwich, Norwich, St Augustine, St Clement, St George Colegate, St Martin at Oak, St Mary at Coslany, and St Michael Coslany RG12/1529 West Wymer which covers part of Heigham This means that there are now 392,289 (90.1%) 1891 Norfolk census records available to search free on line. Many thanks to all the volunteers who have kindly given up their free time to assist with the project without their help this information would not be available. Please see the main Freecen site or my website (see my signature for a link) for details of which pieces are on line. Finally don’t forget that a complete transcription for the Norfolk 1861 and 1871 census is available on the FreeCen site. Hope this helps you in your research Bev -- Bev Howlett FreeCen Co-Ordinator Norfolk 1861,1871,1891 Cambridge 1891 Surrey 1871,1891 Find Out How To Help http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/bevsnorfolkinfo/ http://www.freecen.org.uk

    3. Marriage entry shows that James Trower was from Wreningham and the couple had 2 children baptised there before moving to Hempnall where at least 4 more children were baptised. There is a burial for Sarah Trower 25 May 1828 aged 51 in Hempnall which would make her born c 1777 but there is no way to be sure this is the right Sarah. No clues to her place of birth anywhere. 2. John Seakins via
    3. Free or pay to view Survey The trustees of Free UK Genealogy, Freereg, FreeBMD and Freecensus propose to change the availability of data transcribed by volunteers from being “free” to “pay to view”. This survey is being carried out to determine which option is preferred and is open to all past, present and future volunteers of these organisations. Feel free to send this message to any website, chat group and anyone with an interest in the future of these organisations. A vote for “pay to view” indicates support for the new proposed volunteer agreement. A vote for “free” indicates that the new volunteer agreement must include a clause saying that data transcribed by volunteers will never be used for commercial purposes. To vote send your responses in the subject line directly to me: jseakins@gmail.com You may also wish to email your vote to the Executive Director: Pat.reynolds@freeukgen.org.uk I will report on the preliminary results on August 1 with a final report on 8 August which will give time for the Executive Director to modify the volunteer agreement if necessary. Thank you for all the messages received so far and I urge you to make the message clear that we want these organisations to continue to be successful. The future of these organisations depend on us: the volunteers. John Seakins (PhD) Auckland, New Zealand

    3. David, I believe that Rootsweb has a problem, though I don't know what it is. Cumberland have ceased sending out emails, as they are getting lost in cyberspace. 2. Hi, I have a Henry Robert Steward born in West Beckham in 1879 to a William Steward and Lydia. I have Henry,s marraige to Blanche in 1904 in West Beckham. I have looked on the 1851, 61, 71, 81, and 91 census and cannot find Henry at all. I did find a William on the 1871 age 31 in the Erpingham district, but not sure if its the correct William, I have yet to find a marraige for William and Lydia. Further back I have a Mary Ann Steward born 1802 in WB, as far as I am aware her parents are James Steward and Elizabeth Howell/Hold, but I have not yet found proof of this. I am thinking these are all from the same family, but have yet to connect the dots.Any help or ideas greatly appreciated. Many thanks Fee.

    3. Hi, here is today`s challenge . !!! Charles Dean Prangley was born in July 1897 ( and here is the first of the challenges, there are two CDPs one born July in Bebington , Cheshire , the other born in 1897 at Marylebone . ) His father was Charles Wilton Prangley who was ordained a deacon in 1888 by the Bishop of Norwich and licenced as curate of Holbrook in Suffolk. In 1890 the Rev Prangley married Elizabeth Richardson at Hastings reg dist . In 1891 the couple are living in Holbrook , Suffolk without children. In 1899 an Elizabeth Prangley`s death aged 39 is registered in the Norwich dist. In 1901 the Rev Prangley is a widower living with his widowed mother Ruth in Potter Heigham , he is clergyman and says he is born Salisbury Wilts, his mother is b London . In 1902 the Rev Prangley married Elizabeth Reid from Govan in Yarmouth . In the 1911 census they are at Potter Heigham and have two small children . This time the Rev Prangley says he was born in Milford Wilts . So where is Charles Dean Prangley b 1897 I think in Marylebone , he is in Marlborough College aged 14 in the 1911 and says he was born in Harley St . His earlier education , according to his obituary was at South Lodge Lowestoft . But where is he in the 1901 and were there any other children of the Rev Charles and his first wife Elizabeth between 1890 and 1899 ? I can`t find the Rev Charles in Crockfords nor the Alumni so can`t work out where he might have been , but feel he would have been somewhere in Norfolk probably or Suffolk . Help please. --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus
