Hi Pam Would you please tell me what steps you took to find your ancestor? I am looking for a marriage of Richard GAGER also from King Lynn but haven't found it so far in Norfolk marriage. His first wife died in August 1765 and he again appears in records in November 1778 Baptising a daughter in King Lynn with new wife Susanna. Hi I am writing to provide an update on the 1861 census project. Five further pieces have been uploaded to the on line database and are now searchable for free on the main Freecen site at http://www.freecen.org.uk These are pieces: RG09/1194 Yarmouth Northern covering the parishes Cobham Island (SFK), Great Yarmouth RG09/1207 Buxton covering the parishes of Coltishall, Erpingham, Great Hautbois, Hevingham, Ingworth, Lammas, Little Hautbois, Marsham, Scottow, Skeyton, Stratton Strawless, Swanton Abbott, Tuttington RG09/1221 Costessey covering the parishes Barford, Barnham Broom, Bawburgh, Bowthorpe, Brandon Parva, Carleton Forehoe, Colton, Costessey, Coston, Easton, Marlingford, Runhall, Welborne, Wramplingham. RG09/1232 Diss covering the parishes of Billingford, Burston, Dickleburgh, Diss, Frenze, Gissing, Scole, Shimpling, Thelton, Thelveton, Thorpe Parva, Tivetshall St Margrt Tivetshall St Mary RG09/1238 Watton covering the parishes of Breckles, Carbrooke, Caston, Griston, Hockham, Illington, Merton, Ovington, Rockland St Peter, Scoulton, Stow Bedon, Thompson, Tottington, Watton. This means that there are now 395,556 (94.9%) 1861 Norfolk census records available to search free on line. Many thanks to John Seakins, Julie Bennett, Brian Ayres, Emma Auty, Scilla Bunn, Sue McCall, Rebecca Graham, Julie Searles and Marian Seakins, without their help this information would not be available. If you would like to help with making more information available please contact me on bandys@worldonline.co.uk <mailto:bandys@worldonline.co.uk>. Please remember that spelling was not standard in 1861 so you may need to be a little imaginative with some of your searches. We have to provide a transcript of what the enumerator wrote not what we think he meant. Please see the main Freecen site or my website (see my signature for a link) for details of which pieces are on line. Hope this helps you in your research. -- Bev Howlett FreeCen Co-Ordinator Norfolk 1861,1871,1891 Cambridge 1891 Surrey 1871,1891 Find Out How To Help http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/bevsnorfolkinfo/ http://www.freecen.org.uk
I posted this some time back but think it got lost in the 'no messages zone' we passed through recently. Regards, Pam Hi, Just because there are many strays in Lincolnshire from Norfolk, I wanted to be sure everyone saw this new source for online PRs in Lincs: http://www.lincstothepast.com/home/ Unfortunately in this day and age, the search is not particularly user friendly -- find the help sheet on this page for navigating the pr's: http://www.lincstothepast.com/help/how-to-search-for-parish-registers/361.article I immediately found my King's Lynn grandfather's Christening record - a wonderful find. Peter Calver with FindMyPast sent this out this week - his is a wonderfully helpful newsletter. http://lostcousins.com/newsletters/jun11news.htm Happy Hunting, Pam

I was having a trawl through the Register of Deaths for the Aylsham Union Workhouse and noticed that a whole section of the register seems to be missing. From October 1867 to June 1877. I was wondering if this happens a lot or is there something special about this period? Richard Spink
