    3. I have found the headstone/grave of Tom A Bishop in Caister on Sea cemetery and as soon as I down load the photos I will send them on to Marilyn. There are well over a hundred graves ( lost count) ranging from around 1909 to WW2 Some have service numbers, some have ships names ( including HMS Victory and Pembroke I noticed) These graves are well cared for, lovely cut grass and flower beds. I assume the interred came from the Naval Hospital. The rest of the cemetery I am afraid for those who might have Yarmouth relatives is not so well cared for.Since I last looked a number of headstones have been removed- vandalism and the practice of planting trees did not help and many headstones have tilted or broken and were removed on safety grounds. Anyway , something for those looking for Great Yarmouth burials- don't forget the municipal cemetery at Caister Rosie On 23/07/2011 13:26, Watson Family wrote: > Hi Elizabeth, > many thanks for that. 3. I will have a look for him when I get time- if Marilyn keeps reminding me off list ! - as I know that there are burials from the Naval Hospital in the cemetery at Caister on Sea. A long time since I have walked round (it was a favourite conker gathering place for the kids years ago) but if I remember correctly there are what are probably War Grave Commission cared for graves as well as others. Certainly a number of sailors although I dont recall the dates of the stones exactly. There has been some toppling /breakage and removal of stones over the last couple of decades. If anyone else is interested the cemetery is not the parish graveyard but what I assume to be the earliest part of a municipal burial ground for Yarmouth, which is still in use. It is on Ormesby Road, Caister on Sea and at the junction with Braddock Road. I think this may have been the cemetery which came into use when the Nelson Road/Kitchener Road Cemetery in Yarmouth was full. It might be worth checking that one too for Naval Hospital burials. The Naval Hospital has been converted to dwellings in recent years-I do not know about any burials on site, but I think at 1918 he is likely to be offsite, because of the dates I have seen on the headstones in Caister. 3. G'day Marilyn ! I suspect that he may well have been on a ship that was outside British waters when the 1891 Census took place in which case you will not be able to find him as they were not enumerated. I think they tried much harder to include everybody in the 1911 Census as I have found people in Army Barracks in Malta and India when that took place. They probably included more naval personnel that time also, but it will need a lot of searching to find him ? I hope the sun is shining in W.A. ! Best Wishes ! 3. Marilyn Have you tried this? If you Google "Asylum Great Yarmouth" this brings up an Ancestry page, unfortunately some years old, which says that the records are held at James Paget Hospital, also in Yarmouth, and gives contact details. Perhaps JP hospital itself now has a website with useful info. The sad thing about all this is that Tom Bishop was clearly far from his roots in Worcestershire, and unless you know that relatives kept in touch with him, it is, alas, quite on the cards that he had to be buried in an unmarked grave, although the right cemetery records might give the position. 3. Thanks for your eagle eyes Pam and Peter. I really think I had better get some new glasses! I have been going backwards a forwards on Ancestry, IGI and findmypast for over a week and thought I had completely lost the plot.  Regards Jackie ________________________________ From: Pam Downes <pam@five-oaks.co.uk> To: norfolk@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, 19 July 2011, 0:29 Subject: Re: [NFK] Soanes - Yarmouth 1851 census George Indexed by Ancestry as Sovanes, father Thomas as Soanes. From what I can see from this list http://www.origins.org.uk/genuki/NFK/norfolk/church/adminareas.shtml#anw Yarmouth is in the Archdeanery of Norwich Pam On 18/07/2011 23:19, jackie wing wrote: > Thanks everyone for the advice and trying to help. I am going to have to get some certificates as none of the census's reveal anything, apart from George in 1861 with his father Thomas b 1803, widowed (again no birth or spouse found!). Thomas was the master of a steam towing vessel and they lived at Row, Great Yarmouth. They also had a servant, so were of moderate means. Sadly, no other family members found, nor anything on the 1851 or1841. The only other possible female Soanes was an Ann, on the 1851, sailor's wife, but no son George. > > Cheers > > Jackie > > > > > ________________________________ > From: Rosemary Jones<rjones5622@gmail.com> > To: norfolk@rootsweb.com > Sent: Monday, 18 July 2011, 21:40 > Subject: Re: [NFK] Soanes - Yarmouth > > Jackie and Trish, > > Now you have a few dates to go on you can browse the Yarmouth parish records > images on FamilySearch. > > Rosemary > ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NORFOLK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Jackie, FreeBMD has Georgiana T. Soanes, born March Qtr 1866, Yarmouth 4b 25 There's nothing on FreeREG, Transcription Archive or the Baptism Project for Yarmouth for this time-period. FreeREG has the marriage of George Henry SOANES in Yarmouth in September qtr 1863 to either Jane Eliza WACEY or Rebecca HANNANT (4b 21). The marriage of Peter Cubitt FITT and Charlotte BONE was in Yarmouth in June qtr 1871 (4b 28) - they may turn out to be related in some way after you do more research.
