Hi Veneita There were so many George Stevens b 1892 ish that unless you know place of birth it will be difficult. If you don't know where he was born suggest the 1901 census when presumably both George and Dorothy would still have been with parents. You can subscribe to either Ancestry or FindMy Past - I think they both have free trials - and then it's a case of trawling though and then following up what you find. If you have any further info on Georges birth - a certificate? - then post the details and I'm sure we'll be able to help. Hello I am still looking for a connection on the name Stevens George Stevens born 1892 he had a sister Dorothy Regards Veneita
Thank you for this. I have obtained from the NRO the names of the heirs in the will of Nicholas Rooks. I had hoped that the son Samuel (my g-g-g-grandfather?) would be among them and would show his address as London, which would greatly increase the probability thaat he is "my" Samuel. Unfortunately, he was not named in the will. I did know about Samuel's siblings. Thanks Bob I would like to see the information Forces comes up with but don't think they have anything original, all I have found on there (without subscribing) appears to be from soldiers died or the CWGC etc I found them a little misleading, hence wanted to know the source I think you suggested Tyneside before which would have made sense given her address in Sunderland But the marriage was a good find on your part, no wonder I couldn't see it with the errors in the transcriptions Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 04/03/2014 12:45, Bob Rust wrote: > Hi Nivard > > The military information came from Forces War Records which I understand is > taken from original records and is often more detailed than CWGC. > > I suggested the Wandsworth registration only because of the coincidence of > names, the fact that Vera would then have been 21 and the possibility of > someone from Roehampton marrying in Wandsworth. Hi Nivard The military information came from Forces War Records which I understand is taken from original records and is often more detailed than CWGC. I suggested the Wandsworth registration only because of the coincidence of names, the fact that Vera would then have been 21 and the possibility of someone from Roehampton marrying in Wandsworth. Plus Vera being a Mackum and being back in Sunderland when widowed. Hi Bob Well found, it may be the marriage, although it was registered in Wandsworth unless there is a huge coincidence I went looking as I wondered why I hadn't found it and soon discovered why It seems to be a catalogue of errors On freebmd Marriages Dec 1918 Thompson Vera Frost Wandsworth 1d 1068 Frost John W Thompson Wandsworth 1d *1066* (correction added) And on Ancestry A really poor and hard to read page image, usually Ancestrys are clearer England & Wales, Marriage Index, 1916-2005 about John G Frost Name: John *G* Frost Spouse Surname: Thompson Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1918 Registration district: Wandsworth Inferred County: London Volume Number: 1d Page Number: *1083* Correction and note added Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 03/03/2014 16:50, Bob Rust wrote: > Had another ferret round > A John William Frost married Vera Thompson 4/4 1918 she was the only Vera as > far as I could see who fitted the age criteria was registered Tynemouth > 4/41896 maybe all coincidences. > > Bob
Hi Bob Does it give a source for that information ? Hi , I think you have exactly solved it ......I didn`t find the Supplement to the LG and that shows that he was definitely MC and he would have been on 1/2 pay because he was in Roehampton. But I can`t find a JW Frost on the MC citations anywhere ? So do we think the LG made the mistake ? showing Albert John MC ? And I agree he is an entirely different man .......but did our get the MC ? life is hard . soften it with a cat \\\=^..^=/// ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nivard Ovington" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, March 03, 2014 11:51 AM Subject: Re: [NFK] JOHN W FROST > Hi again > > Does the extract I gave you predate the one you found for Albert ? > > ie is it another man entirely > > Supplement to the London Gazette 17th January 1919 (p)873 > > North'n R - 2nd Lt. Hi Pam That is quite true in many cases but in J W FROSTs case the MC is mentioned in the London Gazette in January before his death Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 03/03/2014 12:18, Pam Downes wrote: > Is it possible that he was awarded the MC posthumously? Is it possible that he was awarded the MC posthumously? And even later than the memorial was built? I know of one incident in WW2 when a ship was torpoed in July 1941 but the George Cross wasn't awarded (posthumously) to its recipient until April 1947. (h.p. = Half Pay) Looking at the CWGC there are no Albert FROST deaths listed for 1919 for any regiment, neither is there an Albert FROST in soldiers died for 1919 Northants Regt Newspapers are prone to mistakes, so the Albert could be a mistake if there is other evidence to link the two gazette extracts However there is a medal card as follows for an Albert John FROST who was an acting Captain British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index Cards, 1914-1920 about Albert John Frost Name: Albert John Frost Regiment or Corps: Highland Light Infantry, Northumberland Fusiliers, Northamptonshire Regiment Regimental Number: 10757, 10757, 10757 I would say the Albert is an entirely different man Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 03/03/2014 11:29, elizabeth howard wrote: > Hi again, the CWGC site says John William Frost , MC , 2nd Lt > Northamptonshire Regt, d 1919 .
