    3. Hi again Veneita, On Ancestry there is a tree for a George STEVENS who married Hannah CARRUTHERS. However, he was born in 1898 in Newport, Monmouthshire. In the link to the 1901 census he is shown as James G(eorge) STEVENS with parents Albert and Annie born and living in Risca. He could have increased his age on marriage to be old enough but it is rather a lot. The father and a brother are coal miners. Also there is no Dorothy shown but it is possible she wasn't at home on census night. But a lot of "ifs" there. 3. *On 5 March 2014 23:18, Nivard Ovington So how do you know the George with the SMITHs in 1911 is your George?* Hi Nivard and Veneita Trying to collate what info there is I find:- Famly Search 1911 index George Stevens b Monmouthshire Residence Eglwysilan, *Llanbradach *Glamorganshire Wales Pontypridd was the registration district for Llanbradach [only about 9 miles away] and the marriage to Hannah E[mily] Carruthers in 1912 and subsequent births of 2 children and death of 1 were also reg Pontypridd so it seems likely that it is the correct George in 1911 census. Also a Smith a witness at marriage as per 1911 census household. I know this doesn't help with birth for George or Dorothy although there are birth entries in Cardiff - George 1892 Sep 11a 362 and Dorothy Alice 1896 Mar 11a 396 which may or may not be of any relevance! Re: Dorothy and son Stanley - there are 3 Stanleys b mother Stevens in Welsh reg districts [Bedwelty and Pontypridd] 1916 - 1920 but none match a marriage to a Dorothy. Of course she could have married anywhere and later in life. Veneita if you have the time and inclination you coud use FreeBMD to find all the Stanley births mother Stevens and use his surname to check marriages - ouch quite a job. Cheers Jean > >

    3. Hi again So how do you know the George with the SMITHs in 1911 is your George? If it is, there is something wrong as there are three George STEVENS births registered Monmouthshire 1892 + or - 2 years George Thomas b1891 died 1917 (parents David & Elizabeth) Charles George b1892 still with parents in 1911 (George & Mary) George Burley b1893 still with parents in 1911 (Fred & Elizabeth A) I know I should have asked but what is the address on the marriage cert ? Did George serve in the war ? I presume they also had a Leslie 1915 in Shropshire? The only death that fits your information records him as George J STEVENS England & Wales, Death Index, 1916-2007 about George J Stevens Name: George J Stevens Birth Date: abt 1892 Date of Registration: Sep 1958 Age at Death: 66 Registration district: Shrewsbury Inferred County: Shropshire Volume: 9a Page: 153 Do you have the certificate to know what the J stood for Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hello Nivard > Yes I did find him on the 1911 census > on the marriage Certificate he was a Labourer and his father > deceased and just the sir name Stevens > the witnesses were Louisa Smith and George Thomas Carruthers > they did have a son George Martin and a little girl Emily May > but she died. > 1914 they moved to Shropshire Oswestry > that is were he died 1958 > Veneita

    3. Hi Neita I was going to ask what the 1911 census reference was but have just found him as Gorge STEVENS age 19 a colliers helper born Monmouthshire As the 1911 was filled in by the head of household and George was a boarder, I wonder how sure you can be of his birthplace, given the George STEVENS registered in Monmouthshire can be discounted as they are still around in 1911 On the 1912 marriage, what occupation did George give, and you say the father is recorded as deceased but no name? Very odd, the deceased I can understand but no name suggests he was illegitimate and didn't know who his father was Were there any connected witnesses? 3. Hi Again Veneita, It usually says the father's name even if he is deceased. Sometimes it will say deceased and sometimes it won't. But I have never known the name to be omitted unless the they are not known, i.e. the child is illegitimate. And then, often, a fictitious name is put in. So what you have is new to me. I have just looked for a Dorothy STEVENS - HICKS marriage and there isn't one on FreeBMD. Of course it is not complete. I looked for George STEVENS born Glamorgan and found a George Thomas STEVENS b Jan-Mar 1891 and a George Burley STEVENS b Jul-Sep 1893. But the nearest I could find for Dorothy is a Dorothy Alice STEVENS b Jan-Mar 1896 in the Cardiff area. Of course I might be looking in the wrong area. Do any of those sound familiar. Your father's/mother's birth cert. may well give his/her father's middle name. 3. Hi Veneita, The marriage that most matches that is George Stevens to Hannah E Carruthers in Jul-Sep 1912 in the Pontypridd registration district. You can confirm or exclude that by looking at your father or mother's (as appropriate) birth in FreeBMD http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ and checking the mother's maiden name. Then you either need that marriage certificate or get on a Glamorgan list and see if the records are available anywhere. But the chances are you will end up having to get the marriage certificate. Then you can search for your grandfather giving his father's name. I am wondering how you know your grandfather's birth year. Is it through family lore or is it just possible you have some info you haven't told us? Hope this helps Christine -----Original Message----- From: neita41 Sent: Wednesday, March 05, 2014 4:50 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [NFK] stevens On 05.03.2014 15:50, elizabeth howard wrote: > Hi, the information you have sent is not sufficient Hi I think Dorothy was born around 1897 I chose Norfolk because Dorothy had a son Stanley and she used to stay with him. 3. Hi, the information you have sent is not sufficient for anyone to be able to help you .......Stevens is a very common name as is George and Dorothy, and there are many George Stevens born in 1892 . Why have you chosen Norfolk to search ? do you know when Dorothy was born ? Did George marry ? where might he have been living in 1901 or 1911 ? life is hard . soften it with a cat \\\=^..^=/// ----- Original Message ----- From: "neita41" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 05, 2014 2:45 PM Subject: [NFK] stevens > > > > > > Hello I am still looking for a connection on the name > Stevens George Stevens born 1892 he had a sister Dorothy > Regards > Veneita > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

    3. Hi Veneita, Do you know your grandmother's name? Have you got their marriage certificate? That will give your g-grandfather's name. Also other info on there might be useful. Then you can search for George Stevens giving a father's name. Good luck, Christine -----Original Message----- From: neita41 Sent: Wednesday, March 05, 2014 2:45 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [NFK] stevens Hello I am still looking for a connection on the name Stevens George Stevens born 1892 he had a sister Dorothy Regards Veneita ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
