My grandfather, John Tanner (1882-1945) had a sister that most family members never knew of. The following is the only information I have. Maud M. Tanner was born on 19 August 1875, Honey Lake Valley, Lassen County, California. She was the daughter of William Martin Tanner and Jane Smith. On 30 July 1892 she married John P.Gehring at Susanville, Lassen County, California. He was born circa 1847 at Germany. That is the last documentation I have. According to the only relative, a niece, was the only person who even knew of this person’s existence. She was told that when Maud’s brother, Charlie Tanner died in 1920 a search was made, since she was entitled to a portion of the estate. The family thought that maybe her last known whereabouts was somewhere in Oregon and they assumed she died before Charlie did. I have searched for over thirty years, with no success. A friend did suggest due to the age difference, her husband may have died, and she remarried. Any assistance and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Tim Purdy Susanville, CA

Tim, This may be a long shot, as Maud is spelled with an "e", but have you seen the article "Women in Dentistry" by Elizabeth Neber King, 1945?     "Dr. Maude M.
