Honoring Dinner ~ An enjoyable Community Dinner was held last Thursday evening at the Parish House, with the Ladies Aid as hostesses and with 65 persons in attendance. The Fireman were honored guests on this evening. There was a lavish spreadd of good things, with Corned Beef and cabbage as the headliners and delicious pies of all kinds to top off with. 2]. Fire Equipment ~ The Wvvlle Fire Dept has a new truck. The American La France by name. The new truck has only gone 3,375 miles and was purchased from the Montecito Fire Dept. for $650. <note: because of the care these vehicles recieve during ownership, often are resold to smaller dept state wide, they have a long life span>.. Fire Chief J.J. HARRINGTON, accompanied by HAL E. GOODYEAR and E.B.MILLER, drove to Los Angles for the engine, returning Tuesday. 2]. Name Change ~ The recently formed "SNOW CLUB" has changed its name to the "OUTDOOR 40 CLUB", the 40 being the number of members in the club. LEONARD MORRIS was elected president. HENRIETTA SCHLICHHTING, secretary?treasurer. This past weekend and Washington's birthday, gave many the opptunities to use the toboggins track, both day and night. 50 yrs. ago. 22, February 1962. Thursday. 1]. Lake report (Whiskey Town) ~ The big "puddle" is still growing. The in-flow has slowed down this week, as the rains lightened. Its down to 3,000 cubic fps, as compared with 5,000 cubic fps last week. The water level is at 2273.3 feet, with a maxium depth of 333.3 feet. 2]. Filings ~ Announcing his intensions is GEORGE FILES, filing for the candidacy for the office of County Coroner and Public Administrator. FILES has been the Deputy Coroner for the past 4 yrs. under E.G. CHAPMAN, who is retiring after 44 yrs. of service. FILES is married to the former MISS BETTY DRAKE, who was a Trinity High School teacher. 3] Remodeling ~ YOUNG's the popular old-fashioned fountain, is closed this week, while remodeling is being done by VAN MATRE & McCAFFREY, contractors. The building was built in 1952, after a run-away truck caused the old building to be demolished. YOUNG's CONFECTIONERY was established in 1912, folowing the partnership between BOB YOUNG's father, HENERY YOUNG, and CHARLES WILSON. WILSON died in 1912, and YOUNG's CONFECTIONERY was established at the present location. (note: in 2012, this is located next to the Wvvlle Hotel). 25 yrs. ago. 19, February 1987. Tuesday. 1]. Weather ~ The weather Almanac shows an average high temp of 54F, and a low of 34F, with a rainfall of 0.17 inches of rain, bringing this years total rainfall to 19.86 inches. Last yrs. at this time; high of 54F degrees and low of 27F degrees. The rain total was 4.68 inches. The Lake is currently at 74.1% of Capacity compared to last yrs. total of 69.2%. The snow level survey, shows snow down by 30 to 36% of average. 2]. Celebration ~ Lewiston Elementry School students celebrated 100 days of School on 02, February, with the release of 100 Helium balloons. The classes of SHIRLEAN DUNTISCH and JIM KENNEDY were the stars, releasing the multi-colored orbs into the skies, while the entire school and other guests looked on. One being Mrs. ALINE LARKIN, of Lakeview Terrace, who was a special guests as she was celebrating her 98th birthday on Feb 23rd. The children from Mrs. DUNTSCH's class had a great time asking Mrs. LARKIN about her childhood. 3]. LARRY BRANT and MARIAN SWINNEY, from the Big Bar Forestery Station, have been chosen as recipients of the Forest Host Award, an annual award to recognize outstanding efforts to serve the public. 4] Kidnapping ~ A 15 yrs. old Hayfork youth was taken into custody and taken to Tehama Juvenile Hall in a kidnapping case in Hayfork area. A young woman and her 2 children were fishing, when the youth accosted them at knife point, tied them to trees, and left the area. 1 of the children was able to free himself and the others and they returned to Hayfork to report the incident. The young man was caught and then released to his parents custody after apearing in court. The case will be continued to be investigated. end. ~hum.Linda~ Words are the window to the Heart.
