Student speaker contest ~ The Wvvlle Lions Club held its annual Student Speaker contest on 21, February, at the Congregational Church Parrish House in Wvvlle. The Topic for speeches this years is ' MY RESPONCIBILITY IN A CHANGING WORLD". The winner was BARBARA ALWARD, senior student at Trinity High School. Barbara is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. TAYLOR ALWARD, of Wvvlle. Barbara will represent the Wvvlle Lions Club in the zone contest in Redding early March. 3] Club Officers named ~ The names of this year's offices in the Hayfork Rotary Club were released this week. Tuesday. 1] Salyer Slide by-pass ~ Funding has been included in the 1987 State Highway's Budget Program to build a bypass on Hwy 299, around a large slide near Salyer. The Construction if approved, will include 2 bridges over the Trinity River, about 1/2 mi. west of Salyer Roadside Rest Area. The estimated cost to be $5,946,000 and will move the highway away from the unstable area, that has been a major problem since December of 1981, block traffic for up to a week at a time. Between Winter 1981-82 through winter 1983-84, the ighway was closed 35 days. As highway 299 is the only route from Redding to the Coast, trucking was disrupted for days at a time. 2]. Combining school administration(s) ~ The Wvvle Elementary School will be holding a special meeting to determine the feasablitlity of combining the adminstrations of Trinity High School and of the Elementary School. This would allow 1 superintendent to over see 2 schools, saving on the cost of 2 persons and their staffs. 3] Photography show ~ diana sheen, who prefers to use lower case letters for her name, is presenting her 1st "1 man show" at the North Valley Art League Cottage Gallery, in Redding. The show will run for 1 month and is entitled "Roouge et Gris,Plus" wich translates to "Red & Grey, Plus". The photography show will include some of her award-winning photos including "Apple Frost" which won "Best of show" at the 1985 Trinity County Fair. 4] Hospital renameing ~ Board of Supervisors will be applying for a new Hospital License with a new name, as part of a settlement with WestWorld Community Health Care, Inc. . Several names have been recieved for the members to choose from and additional names will be added to the list.
