    3. I am a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and received an email last week about the indexing of the 1940 census. FamilySearch has partnered with the APG to help with indexing the census. According to the email they want to have it all indexed by the end of summer. They are looking for volunteers, so if anyone is interested they can check with FamilySearch.org to see how they can help with the indexing project. I think this is how Ancestry has handled most all of their indexing of records, using outside help to do the actual indexing. Karen S. Golden Rodgers ----- Original Message ----- Here is the little blip from Ancestry: "At midnight on April 2, 2012, the National Archives will hand off the 1940 census records to Ancestry.com. Then we will start working around the clock to get each census page online so you can browse it with our new image viewer. And Ancestry.com will also provide you with updates, advice and custom guidance throughout the process, allowing you to make your discoveries as quickly and easily as possible." Doesn't actually tell us much. Also, I think somebody already put this up, but here is the National Archives, and it says to start there: http://www.archives.gov/research/census/1940/ Good luck to all of us! Ancestry says they'll be 'on it' and making databases as soon as they get the Census documents. I don't know what type of search engine they'll begin with...but I'm sure that the searchability of the database will improve the longer they have the 1940 Census documents. I'll probably stumble around with ancestors I KNOW were in a certain place at a certain time and see what is available. My hope is that Ancestry has HAD the documents for a while and will release their database that's at least partially 'workable' for the average researcher. I have NO CERTAINTY that this has happened so don't quote me. Just a recurring wish/dream ;~) Perrin > Dear Group, >   > I've been reading information at different sites that claims that most > people will have difficulty researching the 1940 Census material that will > be released on April 2nd. >   > > > ----------------------------------------- > NORCAL ARCHIVES: > http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ > Enter NORCAL.
