Rain began 30, December 1854, with rain and snow, of which there is currently 2 ft. on the ground, with more in the hills. To show how hard up we are for news-items, we will just mention, that the weather since our last issue has been decidely changeable, that we have had cold nights and warm days - though we are perfetly aware that everybody either knows it already or dosen't care one continental about it anyway! It has been cold enough to freeze - well we won't say it, but it has been colder for the past 2-3 days than any time since ' 1854 - then the river was frozen over, and loaded mules crossed on the ice in some places. The long delayed storm has comme and minning operations have at last commenced thoughout the county. The season now bids fair to be an ave age one. The rainfall since our last issue is 2.81 inches, making the total for the season 16.73 inches; sno 7.5 ft., making a total for the year 27.¾ feet. Plenty of water now; no more idlers and long faces.. At times the downpour was terrific; 5.70 inches fell during that period, the heavest for the same time for many years. As a result, all the Creeks were running high and the Trinity River was at "freshet" height. The most serious result of this storm was the destruction of the Lewiston bridge on the stage road from Wvvlle to Redding. 109 yr. ago. 07, February 1903. Saturday. 1] The weather for the past week has been unually cold, with the mecury falling as low as 7 above zero on a least 2 occassions. Snow fell the first of the week, rain was at 0.24 inches, making a totla to date of 33.13 inches. The young people have taken advantage of the snow and ice and "coasting" parties are now popular. The reservoirs about the town have been frozen over for the past week, and the young folks have been enjoying themselves in skateing, an unusal pastime in this country. 102 yrs. ago. 12, February 1910.
