I don't think it will be long after April 2nd that we will start to see census images on Ancestry.com. See this page -- http://www.ancestry.com/1940?o_xid=21837&o_lid=21837&o_sch=Search. Here's a link from the NARA -- http://www.archives.gov/research/census/1940/. I suspect that Ancestry.com will release images as they are ready, and not wait for the entire census to be done. That's what they have done in the past. I don't expect to see FamilySearch people to get this done as fast. It will be interesting to see if that's right or not.
