Mining news ~ Deadwood Dist., Work has resumed on the BRUNSWICK Mine, Mr. W.F.ARNOLD, having taken over owner/ charge of the property. THis mine is located near some of the most valuable mines in the District, and indications point to a good ledge, which we hope Mr. ARNOLD will be able to unearth. 4] Mining news~ Eastman Dist., Work on the new mill for the VENICIA Mine, is being pushed as rapidly as possible. Timber is being hewn for the frame of the mill, and its place of location has been nicely graded. Mr. St.AUBURN is Superintendent. 5]. Shooing ~ A scrape is reported as having occured down River (New River), the early part of this week. No particulars have reached this office, but we learn that no arrests have been made, although there is serious talk of it occuring. 125 yrs. ago. 19, March 1887. Saturday. 1]. Weather~ Rainfall this week 0.53 inches, making a total to date of 26.05 inches. 2]. Hotel Sale ~ Mr. H.W. LEONARD, who has served the public so long a time as the genial host of the hotel at Douglas City, has concluded negotiations with Mr. GEO.SARGENT of the Deadwood Hotel, for the purchase of thatstand and will take possession the 1st of next month (April). 3] Quilt Sale ~ Go to the Drug Store and exaime the beautiful crazy quilt to be raffled off for $200 dollars. We have been requested by the proper officials, to WARN YOU to stop the indisccriminate throwing of rocks and fire crackers! The repetition of such actions will get you in trouble. 2] Mining claim sold~ The McDonald bros, claim is said to be for sale, the Deadwood mine property is valued at $400.000. 3] Photgrapher ~ Mr. Worthington , the photographer, left here Tusday and will be stopping over in Deadwood for a few days before leaving the country. While in Town his artistic work gave general satisfaction. 4] FIRE ~ The 2 story building owned and occupied by D. HANSEN, as a general merchandise store and the ODD FELLOWS , as a lodge hall, had a fire Tuesday fornoon started by a defective flue. The smoke was seen by Mr. H.T.BUSH, who was working at the rear of the JUNKAN Store. He obtained a key to the Hall. On opening the iron doors; a volume of dense smoke greeted him aand he then immediately raised the fire alarm. The Canopy at the West end of the Hall was then ablaze, but a crowd of active men put it out, with a bucket bragaid of water.
