So, anyone on the list know how I can find lists of crew members from the Wellington or any information about them? I tried the Maritime website but haven't found anything yet. Martin Hearst, who was the seaman I am looking for is in S.F. city directories in 1897, 1899, and 1900 but I never find him in a census record anywhere. The Michael James Hearst who is my grgrgrandfather is in census records from 1900, 1910, and 1920 in S.F. - he died in 1921. I never find him in census records before 1900. I need that 1890 census. I never find him in NY at all. He was born in NY mid 1850's and his first child was born in NY in 1880, the rest of kids were all born here in S.F. I was hopeful to find Martin Hearst to see if he would give me a clue. Any suggestions?? Kat
Hi Kat....... I've not been following your story, so don't know the builder of this steamship - where it traveled from and to and in what time period -= HOWEVER. I do know the link to Google and searched Google for ---- Steamship Wellington --- and see this is a great deal listed there - suggest you read this links and see if there is something that matches what you are looking for. There are lots of books about steamers and other typed of ships traveling to and from the Goldfields in the mid to late 1800's (I have a few of them and though I checked all their indexed, I did not find this ship listed - so I found I could not help you - but there are lots of ships and their crews listed as well as the stories of how and where the sailed and how they sunk , if that was their fate... Look into links on Google you could stumble onto what you want... (or not).. - Also I have other links to ships and passenger lists, but seems I catch a scolding when I post links (spreading Spam, seems to be the charge in these scolding). So write to me privately and I'll send these links to you ... Fear not, just for the record... they do not contain any spam, - Good luck, Ruth ____________________ Ruth (Grady) Skewis [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Saturday, April 28, 2012 5:11PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [NORCAL] New Question City Directories So, anyone on the list know how I can find lists of crew members from the Wellington or any information about them?
