The direct link to the 1940 census page at Ancestry is http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=2442 I just checked, not sure where that announcement was, but the dropdown menu for state does have Delaware and Nevada in it, and searching does bring people up. Wow! That is a surprise, I had called there this afternoon and an ancestry support person said they had not started indexing and it would be a while yet....as in, the end of the year. If you are going to want to browse images rather than wait for California to get indexed, Steve Morse's ED Finder is at http://stevemorse.org/census/unified.html It is faster to download a whole ED using the button at the top of the first census page you get after clicking on the ED number at Morse's site (make sure the Census Image box is ticked). The one problem with downloading the entire ED at archives.gov is that the images gotten that way are huge - around 4-4.5 MB for each page, based on my experience today. If you lose the above URLs ( links), check the rootsweb archiver or you can google for "free 1940 census resources rootsweb" and hopefully the following page will come up, I am trying to keep the 1940 census information up to date there. The page also has links to other free census resources for other years. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~thecohens/resources.html#c1940 On 4/5/12, Susan Slade Grossl <[email protected]> wrote: > What is the URL for that?
