I too have an ancestry membership, and yesterday I came home from work and decided to give the 1940 census a try. I flipped through Calistoga being that it was small- I do not know if they are done with scanning Calistoga, did not find a few people I hoped to find. Then I decided to give San Francisco a try. I used the maps that ancestry put on to figure out the district I would be looking for and bingo found my mother. First time she was listed in a census, she was two. I also found her grandmother living with them - hummmm. And learned where her father was working. As for the others I dont really know where in SF they were living, and some in other states I haven't even attempted. But so far so good. Hope your experiences improve. Kat
