Cathy, If you don't know the street in Oakland try narrowing down the neighborhood. I knew my mom lived with her parents in san Francisco near UC hospital, I looked at the enum. maps ancestry.com has and narrowed down my search that way. Once I found the district I luckily only had to look through seven pages. Kat
Thanks Kat, I remembered after I emailed my question, that I have some photos that I hope, have the address written on the back. (Thanks Mom!) It will only involve going through a zillion albums and boxes. *G* Your suggestion is very helpful and I will be using it if I can't find their address any other way. Can anyone explain why I can't find any of my family whose addresses I do know in the Polk's directory? I looked up both my maternal grandfather and my paternal grandmother..zilch on both..same with aunts and uncles. And, yes, I am sure they lived in those places in 1940.
