    3. Dean and others, Look at the last pages of the ED. I have indexed several pages that have continuations of families. On one occasion the enumerator wrote that the family was continued because the information from the neighbor did not allow her/him to leave enough lines for the family. I wonder how Ancestry will handle this. I guess they will put all members of a family together, but how will they show that some are on one page and some are on another non consecutive page? Nancy in Louisiana From: "Dean Micha Desman" At least your grandma was in the census! Somehow the enumerator didn't take note that my grandparents had an 8 year old daughter. Let us know if Ancestry can fix the glitch. I do have Ancestry. Dean

I had this happen where a family in an earlier census was split over 2 consecutive pages, and the first child on the second page was listed as a head of a unique household (which included one or ,or more siblings) and not linked to the parents (on the transcription, not on the census). There was no way with the error reporting options to fix or report this online - they said they would have the engineers fix it. Unless they improve transcription and error reporting a whole lot, I would guess phone calls will be the only way to get these error rectified if we notice them. Or maybe an email, but I imagine it would take a lot of emails to get them to see the error.

    3. Ancestry and Family search both index each individual entry on a separate line and linked to the exact page and line they are found on. Missing members of the household need to be searched separately and they will be linked to the page and line where they are found. Sometimes there's a note for where they belong but that is not indexed. Where a family is continued on the next page the household number should link the members on the next page to the correct head of household. Sometimes that number is not shown by either indexer and it passes arbitration between both indexers. I've been arbitrating one district in Kern county this morning where the enumerator hasn't numbered any of the households...and they all appear to be separate households. He also negliected to put addresses on the census sheet too. Between these mistakes and other's that I've found some people are going to find it hard to find their relatives. But this is no different than any other census I've worked on. My biggest peeve right now is literal minded indexers. I'm sure lots of you write n's and u's very similarly in cursive. I come across one of these ambiguous letters in 'Lo*isa' and I immediately see it as Louisa. Then I look again to see if it's possibly Lovisa but I don't think I've ever decided it's Lonisa. Lots of indexers don't decipher Mexican names. I guess I'm lucky, I can see the correct spelling under the bad handwriting. If any of your are indexing, please read the direction....and use common sense. 3. Do you remember the Vietnam Peace March in 1967? Some snapshots I took in San Francisco. My wife is in second frame. It's about time to have one for Afghanistan. Bill http://americahurrah.com/SanFrancisco/VietnamPeaceMarch.htm
