Good Morning,  Actually Lars, I was thinking that there may be a connection between the Elder you are seeking, Ferdinand, and the Elder's of So. Sacramento. Dear Marilyn, As far as I can see, Elder is a very unusual last name in Germany, and the same is true for Switzerland.  The 1850 US census does have a few German-born Elders, but the large majority of the foreign-born Elders in the 1850 census appear to be Irish.  I am sorry, I can't help you any further on that topic... I still have trouble seeing a connection between this Elder family and the Elders in Sacramento, CA, but I have sent you off-line a copy of Ferdinand Elder's obituary from Tacoma, WA 1915 for you to study... My three original questions about Howard Elder still stand "open".
