Thanks Susan, I've been in contact with the Madera County Cemetery District office and they found the burial for the husband, Jose M Rivera but not for his wife, Matilda Rivera. She IS listed on the CA Death Index as having died in Madera County in Jan 1946. I was hoping her death cert might list her last known address... the couple lived at 208 South O Street from at least 1910 through 1940, according to the census pages, just two doors down from my mom and her family. Possibly Jay Chapel might have some info or maybe St Joachim Catholic Church. I haven't yet checked those two places. Since she was the last of the family... no siblings, parents, or cousins... I wonder who provided information for her death cert? Maybe hospital records?? Could be. This is one of those small things that just keeps nagging at me! She's not my relative but she was associated with some of my relatives. Thanks again, I appreciate your suggestion! One of my husband's aunts death certificate had slipped underneath all the other certificates in her drawer. It was only found weeks after the initial search by a clerk who decided to clean out that whole drawer. I love the San Diego County Records office that went that extra bit. I might also suggest alternative spellings...like Mathilda or Mattie...or even her maiden name.
