("Daily Alta California," Vol. 42, No.14061, 29 February 29, 1888, pp. 1) "Harbor Commissioner English has addressed a letter to the California Representatives in Congress calling attention to the stone quarries on Angel Island and the adaptability of the stone for seawall purposes. He asks the delegation to unite in requesting the Secretary of War to allow the quarries to be opened. The Secretary of War is expected to refer the whole matter to General Howard for a report, and he will examine the arguments for and against the plan." Peggy B.
