[The deceased was the father of Sheriff IVORY and Edgar D. IVORY, of this county, and the local paper from which the death notice is taken, mentions the fact that he was one of the earliest settlers, and thought to have been the oldest person in Springfield township.] DIED - GIBSON - Near Bakersfield, Kern Co., Nov. 13th, John GIBSON, formerly of this county, aged about 40 years. SUDDEN DEATH - Mr. John GIBSON, formerly of this county and a son-in-law of Jeremiah MORGAN, but lately residing in Kern county, died very suddenly near Bakersfield on Saturday morning last. The deceased was in usual health and went into the sheep corral for the purpose of selecting and taking out some of the bucks. He had already selected and secured 2, and was reaching to catch a 3rd, when he fell forward on his face and must have died instantly, as no signs of life could be discovered by those who went immediately to his assistance. The remains were forwarded and arrived here the following day, and were taken home on Monday by Mr. MORGAN for interment in the family burying ground, some 6 miles south of Clayton. 15th DISTRICT COURT - -Anna M. LEMOINE vs. Lucius E. LEMOINE - For Divorce. Default of defendant entered and cause referred to Court Commissioner E.R. CHASE, Esq., to take testimony and report to Court. -Margaret STUART vs. Thomas STUART - For Divorce. Default of defendant entered and cause referred to Court Commissioner E.R. CHASE, Esq., to take testimony and report to Court. -Sophronia C. PHILIPS vs. Charles PHILIPS - For Divorce. Default of defendant entered and cause referred to Court Commissioner E.R. CHASE, Esq., to take testimony and report to Court. PROBATE COURT - -In the matter of the guardianship of Fannie A. BAILEY and George W. BAILEY, minor children of George W. BAILEY, deceased. Clara E. BAILEY, the guardian of said minors, was authorized to sell at private sale certain real estate of said minors, on executing bond to the minors and publishing notice for 2 weeks as required by law. COUNTY COURT - -Hannah Sophia BANNISTER, a married woman, on due proofs made in open Court, was authorized as sole trader to conduct the business of farming, stock raising, etc., in her own name and on her own account. Hi Dee, Thank you for all the information you provided from the newspapers. Do you know how I could obtain a copy of the Contra Costa Gazette for a date in March 1920? My Great Uncle Patrick Smith died on March 8, 1920 in Martinez. I have a copy of his death certificate. His body was sent my train to Anaconda, Montana for burial where my Grandfather lived. I have never been able to find where his brother Thomas was buried and wondered if they might be an obituary in the Contra Costa Gazette and it might mention his brother Thomas.
