Judy, I feel as if I am throwing a dart at an empty board. Which Dickinson book are you refering? What time period? I am in the process of re-researching the Hinton book by Philip Wharton Dickinson, attorney of New York who researched and presented a manuscript in 1914 on my family with his family connections included. I understand he was a 'genealogist' after retiring. Gabriel Hinton came to Philadelphia about 1700 with brother William. Was in New York in 1724, Married Catherine, only daughter of Richard Potter and acquired title to Lot No. 24, 25/112 on the North side of Wall St.. where the U.S. Assay Office now stand, Sept. 21, 1724. Gabrie=l and Catherine Hinton sold lot to Francis Harrison and returned to Philadelphia. They were both witnesses to the will of Stephen Miller of Philadelphia, Marinoer dated Feby 16, 1726. In 1730, they moved to Oyster Bay, Long Island. They had (and others) 1. John born 1723, married 1747 to Sarah Sharswood and had (with others): 1. Mary born 1754, m. 1773 to Lieut Thomas died 1793 1. Sarah born 1774, d. 1862. Married 1793 to William Gibson and had: 1. Martha Gibson (born 1815, d. 1861), married 1840 Col. Samuel Dickinson - Samuel Dickinson Jr. (1808-1852) and had 1. Wharton, b. 1849, compiler of this record. Married Emily Hughes Bosson, dau of Edward Albert Bosson born 1815.
