    1. Re: [NORCAL] Tehama County
    2. Thanks, Ken. I appreciate the info. Cathy In a message dated 11/18/2013 8:42:49 A.M. Declaration of Intention, Record, 1888-date, 3 V.; 1903-1907, 1 f.b.; Index, 1856-1906, 1 v. Naturalization Depositions, 1915-date, 1 f.b. Naturalization, Record of, 1886-1906,3v. (A, A, C), with few entries; Petition and Record, 1906-date, 2v. Naturalization, Certificates of, stubs, 1906-date, 3v. Naturalization Citizens, Index, 1864-1906, 1v. (A). Unfortunately some of the early naturalizations done in California counties were recorded in court minute books and were not picked up by Coy's team when they did the inventory. Some counties such as San Mateo did a later inventory and searched out all the naturalizations that were record in the minute books and indexed them. Perhaps that last item in the listing above would have your man listed and provide the name of the book where his naturalization information was recorded. Before 1906, the final naturalization records seldom provided any information other than his country of birth. Sometimes, the Declaration of Intention (or an application for citizenship used by some counties) would provide additional information such as the year he arrived in the country. Unfortunately, the Declaration of Intention is not always available at the same county where the final naturalization took place. It can be extremely difficult to determine where the D of C is located. I have found the people working at the rural county offices in California are always more helpful than the urban counties. I would suggest you give them a call and ask what they can do for you. If you get a clerk that does not seem interested, ask to talk to the department manager or the county manager. He was born ca 1818 in England, and supposedly arrived in the US ca 1835-6. He died in Marin County and I am extremely curious about him. Thanks!
