Does anyone know - if a child, under age 5, is adopted by his stepfather, is the original birth certificate sealed and a new one issued? This would have been between 1940-42. Flavia

Hi Favia - I'm not sure about the 1940's, but in 1972 my 2nd husband adopted my daughter who was 4. Her original birth certificate was sealed and a new one showing her step-father as her father was issued. Sorry that was supposed to say, Flavia. :) My daughter was born in Panama, but the step-parent adoption was done in CA. BTW, there was all kinds of paperwork including letters from people who knew my husband saying he was a good guy. Plus papers from my ex-husband giving up his rights as her biological father.
