Hayman was in Santa Clara, where we moved when I before I was 15 months. Dad and Granddad were both born in San Jose. The Bastians came to California from Eau Claire, WI but Great grandfather was born in Tioga or Lycoming county, in Pennsylvania. I have no ancestors who immigrated after 1848. I have some really early Virginia and Massachusetts ancestry that was here before 1630. Garnetts/Gardners were in this group. Prestons came a little later but not sure where or when...but were in New Hampshire before 1770...may have come from Scotland or Lancashire. Latecomers in my family (the Bastians) were the Germans who came in the 1740s. No Irish at all except for some Scot Irish (Protestants) in my husband's family. I don't remember Mrs. Battle too well except she had short, dark curly hair and I thought she was older than my parents who were almost 30. But goes to show you. My sister (who also had her for kindergarten) and I tried to describe Miss Snore to Mom one day and we both agreed that Miss Snore was pretty. Mom shook her head and said that "No, she definitely wasn't pretty". EdrieAnne

The school which is less than a mile from where I write this is HAMAN and that is in Santa Clara When I first came here in ’53 it was an Elementary school now it’s part of Continuing Ed and the playing fields which are extensive are home to a number of Cricket teams as well other sports for the Public. sin a bhfuil agam rich -- Rich Hansen taobh@sonic.net
We left Santa Clara before I could spell so I've never really known anything about the actual school's name. The only school picture I have from school days with the school's name on it was Centenniel Elementary in Little Rock, Arkansas. After kindergarten and first grade, I went to about seven schools for a year or less. EdrieAnne...thanks, I'll remember Haman. We had a house on Murgia, the first house my parents owned. > >
