ENSIGN, in Eureka District, Kings County, Cal., Feb. 5th, 1896, Samuel H. WEDDLE and Miss Etta B. ENSIGN, Rev. W.L. MILLER officiating. [The ceremony took place in the presence of a few relatives and intimate friends. The happy couple will make their home in the neighborhood where the marriage took place. They are receiving the congratulations of many friends.] MARRIAGE -- McBRIAR-JOHNSON -- Near Traver, Feb. 2, 1896, by Rev. O. FRAMBES; John McBRIAR and Miss Mary A. JOHNSON, both of this county. ----------------------------------------------------- GRAND JURY IN SESSION -- The 35 Kings County taxpayers summoned to appear as grand jurymen for the present term were all on hand yesterday morning except 2. The following 19 had their names drawn and they were impannelled as a grand jury: J.M. STANLEY A.B. HAYES R. MILLS I.A. RITCHIE J.C. ENSIGN J.B. NEWPORT Frank L. DODGE J.H. DAWSON Jas. M. McCELLAN Wm. DOHERTY S.A. EDDY T.E. HOWES B.N. SCRIVNER A. MOONEY J.H. DOPKINS D.M. THORNE L.S. CHITTENDEN G.E. SHORE Chas. FOX The jury organized by electing G.E. SHORE of Lemoore, as Chairman, and F.L. DODGE, Secretary. Teams were secured and the entire jury went out to the county hospital and inspected the same and also the county jail yesterday. Today the Board is calling witnesses and investigating criminal cases. ------------------------------------------------------- LOCAL PARAGRAPHS -- -Louis VUCOVICH is over from Visalia, visiting his old Hanford friends for a few days. -A marriage license was granted yesterday for Chas. FULLER to wed Miss Sophie McCAFFREY, both of this city. The wedding takes place next Friday. -A.M. SQUIRE and wife have returned from a visit to relatives and friends at Porterville and "Jerry" is again at work in the postoffice. -Mrs. J. WELBORN made application to Judge Jacobs last Tuesday to have her 3 children, the oldest of whom is a boy of 14, sent to the Whittier Reform School. Mrs. WELBORN earns a livelihood by doing washing and said she was unable to support the children, hence she desired some provision made for their maintenance. ON SATURDAY last a very pleasant party of little misses gathered at the home of Mabel ALLEN, on Barber avenue, in honor of her 8th birthday. Games were indulged in and a nice lunch was served. Among those present were Millie COURTNEY Minnie BUCHANAN Katie and Edith GAMBLE Florence WENDLING Belle FOSTER Virgie HEALY Zella AWALT Tibbie HUBBELL Carrie ABRAMS Alice GROVER Betsy MALSTROM Lurline SHORT Edna WILLIAMS Mary BENEDICT Bessie WELBORN Martha BAIRD Blanche WELBORN Edna GROVER A very nice time was had and Mabel received many nice presents and happy returns of the day. ------------------------------------------------------- LEMOORE LOCALS -- -On Tuesday morning of this week the little child of P. CRAN-I [1 letter illeg], aged about 1 year, 3 months, which had been sick for about 8 days with tonsillitis and derangement of the stomach, passed away. Dr. MOORE was called in the evening before its death, but too late to save the child's life. -Mrs. H.F. COOK and daughter, who have been visiting Mrs. J.S. NISBET for the past 2 months, left for their home in Ashland, Or., on Tuesday morning. -The wife and daughter of A.W. HESS arrived in Lemoore Thursday morning. They will now make Lemoore their permanent home. Mr. HESS' daughter, Mrs. P.A. MURRAY, will visit with them for a month or 2. -A.D. CRIDGE and wife passed through Lemoore on Wednesday of this week en route to his home place SE of town. They met with a chivarie upon their arrival, at the hands of their neighbors. -On Thursday evening of this week a party of Lemoorites to the number of about 40 left town for M. KERCHERT's place to chivarie the newly married couple. They took along with them all the requisites for making the expedition a success, but upon arrival found the birds had flown. -On Monday of this week Mr. Geo. BLAKELEY met with an accident while driving a 6-horse gang plow on the Gilroy place, 1 mile north of town. One of the leaders in some manner got his leg over the lead bars, and Mr. BLAKELEY endeavored to remove its leg from the entanglement. The horses became fractious and swung around, throwing him to the ground and trampling him under their feet, badly bruising him about the head and body. His son, who was working near by, saw the accident and ran to his assistance. He was taken to the house and Dr. FOLEY summoned to attend him. At last reports he was slowly recovering, though his wounds are still very painful. GRANGEVILLE -- -Oscar RAILSBACK has been under the weather the last few days, but is feeling better now. -Louis NATHAN's house is about ready to be put on the rollers and will be on the road to Hanford soon. -Dan LIKENS' father and mother are visiting him. They live in San Jose and are much pleased with this county. -Lem ALEXANDER received a letter from a friend in Kentucky a few days ago, giving the information that Morgan McCOY had started last Monday for California. So we shall soon have Morgan with us again. -Prof. ORR and wife returned from their Eastern trip on Friday and are staying a few days with Mrs. ORR's mother, Mrs. HAAS. The Prof. says they had a most enjoyable trip and visited all the principal cities of the East. The weather was exceptionally fine, and while in Salt Lake they had sleigh rides. They enjoyed perfect health during the trip and fee greatly benefitted. -The following students in Mr. HIGHT's room were neither absent nor tardy during January: Frank BLOWERS J.
