Hi gang, Am courious about an resturant called the Napa Nee (?) circa 1930-50. It was located on the North end of town, in an area called Union Station, was on a cornor, was run by a couple name of Thomas and Edith DeCAMP. Any one know the history of it? or a book that I can read about it....am told it also at one time sold from a fruit stand the best fruit of the County. Took a lot of awards for its County and State fair(s).... What happened to it? ~Linda~ A Smith n' Wesson beats 4 aces! Willow Creek, CA.
Hi Linda; Remembering that you are not subscribed to Ancestry, I looked at all their listings and did not find a Thomas DeCamp or an Edith, however there are some DeCamp families living in Napa Valley at the time - and one lived in Yount which is just north of Napa city. So, putting on my moth-eaten cap, I am wondering whether anyone at the Napa County Historical or Genealogical Societies in Napa can help with this one? Worth a try anyway. Also thinking about Union Station - and where the railroad ran then and still runs now, it might be where the Wine Train station is in Napa - well, that would be east of the town of Napa, but then it might have been considered north at that time. Follow the train tracks today - they still exist. Hi Linda I love a good historical search challenge, but I'm not sure I came up with what you are looking for. I found a book on Amazon entitled "Napa - The Transformation of an American Town" and it has quite a few preview pages. There is a Napanee in the book but it is (or was) the name of the Napa High School yearbook. There are 3 restaurants mentioned, The Depot, Walkers Restaurant, and the Red Hen Cantina Restaurant, but no Napa Nee or Napanee. You can do your own searches on the following page: http://tinyurl.com/ybsyqox It looks like an interesting read. In compiling documents for the book, the author may have run across the restaurant you are looking for but just didn't include it. Perhaps you can contact her.
