Saterday. 1] Last Summer, old Mr. GROS, who keeps the "Traveler's retreat at the Brown's Creek junction, while widening the road in front of his premises, found a small piece of gold on the surface, and on prospecting, discovered good pay in the hill opposite. Water has lately been brought from COCHELL & DAVIDSON's ditch and claims opened which pay from $8 to $15 a day. A back channel has been reached, where the pay is found, and promises to furnish rich and extensive diggings. 2] ARRIVAL OF THE PONY EXPRESS.... The Pony Express left St. Joseph, MO., on 03, April 1860, Arrived at Carson City, NV., at 3:30pm on Thursday the 12th...less than 9 days. This gratifying intelligence was recieved from Mr. ALBRIGHT, operator of the Northern Telegraph Line, at this palce. Hurrah for the Pony Express. 3] The overland stage/mail of April 6th took 9,209 letters to Redding. 125 yrs. ago. 11, April 1885. Saterday. 1] Grave Digging - JACOB KLINK, desires us to say that he has now recovered from the effects of his late accident and is resuming charge of the public buring ground, and that he will attend to the grave-digging and such other work as may be required. 2] Weather has been cloudy much of the time during the past week, but no more rain. 3] The Skating RInk fever is abating; none have it as bad as they had, and some have almost entirely recovered. 4] Off to visit- Mrs. J.KAZINSKY and Miss LOUISE MECKEL have gone to visit in San francisco. 5] Mr. G.V.HELY of New River/Denny area was in town for a few days this week. He says he like that Wvvle. people go to work. All recognizing the necessity of a new trail to the mine, mony was at once raised and men put to work building it. He thinks this enterprise will be of greast benefit to the town. 100 yrs. ago. 09, April 1910. Saterday. 1] Rainfall for the week, none; rainfall to date 33.15 inches; to same date last year 44.25. 2] Miss HELEN MACKEL arrived Thursday night from San Francisco where she has been visiting for the past 4 monthss with her sister Mrs. McAFEE. 3] Mrs. ISABELLA J. MARTIN, who was convicted by a jury and sentenced to im prisonent for life on the charge of having dynamited the residence of Judge FRANK B. OGDEN in Oakland on the night of 18, March 1907, was granted a new tria last week by the Court of Appeals which reversed the ruling of Judge WELLS. The decision of the Court Of Appeals is based upon a technicality which should have no weight with any court. 4] Mrs. HENRIETTA EWING, the 1st white woman to locate in this county, died at EUREKA on 05, April 1910, aged 83 yrs.
