Several members of our family were also first buried at Calvary, the moved to Holy Cross, We have all that Holy Cross has on them, but anything to add to this would a real treasure. Thank you..... Just got back from looking at the microfilmed, handwritten, burial records of SF. Found her. Mary Ayers died 28 October 1869 at Hamilton, Nevada of Pneumonia. She was buried at Calvary Cemetery (catholic) in SF. Due to the closing of all of the cemeteries in SF, all of the remains were transfered to Holy Cross cemetery in Colma. On Monday, I will go over to Holy Cross and verify that she is there. Hopefully, I'll be able to get photocopies of any records that they have and a picture of her gravemarker, if there is one. Do you know what her maiden name was? So glad you asked the question Ruth -I should have asked too as I have one I haven't found yet and I have called almost all the cemeteries in Colma and some in the East Bay. >From www.genealogybank.com. June 9, 1887 - San Francisco Bulletin, California, Mortuary Notice - CORLISS - In this city, June 7, Mrs. Ellen A. Corliss, a native of Ireland, aged 55 years. Now, someone had to put this death notice in the newspaper and buried her but where? She divorced her husband before the 1880 census and he left town, one son died and the other went 'back east' and then moved to England - so what happened to Ellen? Her husband was a stone cutter/marble carver with my great grandfather, William Flood who carved many of the monumental stones in the Bay Area - including a beautiful obelisk for our Flood family that stands in the Mountain View Cemetery in the Oakland hills. That cemetery was my first thought - nope, and I called all the Colma cemeteries, nope not there either. What happened to her? I am in contact with her descendants in England - they want to know too. Ah, these family history mysteries. Maybe we can find her at last. California Genealogy Society in Oakland has the microfilm that I looked at. You can go on to their web site. Do a search through "Look Up" and if you find someone, you can order a copy for $10.
