    3. Hanford Journal Hanford, Kings Co., California Friday, 29 MAY 1896 *********************************** BIRTH -- HAMBLETON -- Near Hanford, to the wife of J.M. HAMBLETON, May 18, 1896, a son. [from Local Paragraphs column] -- The funeral of W.E. BEESON took place in Los Angeles last Sunday, having been postponed from Saturday. --------------------------------------------------- F.H. JEWETT is now aged 83 years. He was in Hanford yesterday for the 1st time in some 4 months. He is an argumentative Populist. He has little to do now except read and he is well posted on political affairs. He is down on McKinley, who is, he says, a straddler. He says the outlook is for the Democrats to adopt a free silver platform at Chicago, and if they place a good free silver man thereon, such as Senator Sibley of Pennsylvania, and will put in the platform a plank endorsing the initiative and referendum, not only the silver party, but the People's party, will endorse him and victory will perch upon the Democratic banner in November. His son Gus strikes some hard nuts to crack when he tackles the old man on political history, as father and son are almost directly opposite on all political propositions. -------------------------------------------------------- LOCAL PARAGRAPHS -- -C.L.
