JONES, formerly of Dudley, Kings county, Cal., a son. BIRTH -- LOGES -- In Hanford, Cal., Sunday, May 24, to the wife of Albert LOGES, a son. DEATH -- PEASE -- In West Carrolin [the L is iffy], Ohio, May 24, 1896, Mrs. M.L. PEASE. [Deceased was a sister of W.H. DODDS of Hanford and J.V. DODDS of Los Angeles.] -------------------------------------------------------- CUT WITH a PEN KNIFE -- Albert MARKS is in Jail Charged With a Serious Crime -- Last Sunday afternoon a Portuguese named Manuel de ROSA drove up in front of the feed yard of Albert MARKS, another Portuguese, near the west end of Front St., in this city. There was angry talk between the 2 men about a letter which de ROSA had given to MARKS to deliver to a sheep man. MARKS claimed to have delivered the letter, while de ROSA claimed he did not. Finally de ROSA jumped from his cart and the men clinched and fell. During the fracas de ROSA was stabbed in the left side with a pocket knife in the hands of MARAKS. The wound is not serious although the blade cut through the coat, vest and 2 shirts, but fortunately it struck a rib and glanced off. Dr. MUSGRAVE is attending the injured man and MARKS is in jail charged with an assault with a deadly weapon. ------------------------------------------------------- LOCAL PARAGRAPHS -- -Wm. NYSWONGER, who had been confined to his bed for the past 2 1/2 months, is now able to be on his feet a little each day. He has been suffering from an abscess in the side. His many friends hope to see him about and at work soon again. -Thos. ESREY and family are again residents of Hanford. Mr. ESREY has leased the Hotel Artesia bar and will conduct the same after the 1st prox. He last week made a trip to San Francisco to purchase new stock. -Porter MICKLE was the lucky winter of the handsome silk quilt raffled off by Mrs. YATES. Ticket No. 24 won it. -John W. LAMBERT and Alex BETHBEDER, former partners in a saloon, got into a shooting scrape at Firebaughs Sunday afternoon. LAMBERT was shot and killed but BETHBEDER was not hurt. -Mrs. DOYLE, mother of Mrs. John WYRUCK, returned from S.F. on Friday. -Charley WESCOTT's horse fell with him, while he was chasing a horse in David CONDON's pasture last Thursday. Charley was badly bruised. ------------------------------------------------------ LEMOORE LOCALS -- [Lemoore 'Leader' May 23d] -Mr. Harvey GRAY, son of our townsman A.W. GRAY, who resides near Armona, has been seriously ill the past week. -Charles BARRETT recently had on exhibition at his store a pair of young lynx. They were captured by J.K. RHOADS while out hunting near Coalinga. He discovered the young ones and was in the act of bagging them when the mother put in an appearance and came rushing at him. He shot the mother and then secured the young ones. Mr. BARRETT took them home and his wife now has some pets which she feels proud of. -John YELKIN's son John, aged about 8 years, together with his brother, met with an accident a few days since while riding on a mule. John was riding behind his brother on the mule and upon reaching the bank of a ditch the mule made a jump, with the result that both boys were thrown to the ground. John's fall resulted in the breaking of his right arm at a point below the elbow, while his brother escaped uninjured. Dr. CHARLES set the broken arm and the boy is now getting along nicely. GRANGEVILLE -- -Mrs. C. BLOYD has been quite poorly this week. -Mrs. SEAMENS came up from S.F. last week to visit her parents, Mr.&Mrs. TOMER. -Master George AGEE has secured a position in his cousin's drug store at Merced. He expects to leave here shortly. -Grandma RAINEY had quite a fall last Thursday, which shook her considerably and confined her to her room for a few days. -Friends of Caleb RAILSBACK are feeling greatly encouraged by the improvement in his health. Hopes are now entertained of his partial recovery, at least of the use of his limbs. ARMONA -- -Beach HAYTER returned to Armona the fore part of last week with his bride, and is living, as happy as a king, on the old VINEY place, just south of the depot. -G.W. LEWIS, who resides about 11 miles from Sanger in the foothills, had 150 young turkeys killed in a hailstorm one day last week.
