Betty, As I understand it from our friends at the State Lib, h is house, b is boards at, and r is rooms. Don't ask me what the difference is between boards and rooms except maybe with boarding you get meals and with a room, you have to provide your own meals. I have been searching more throughout the directories and I believe (h) is head of house, (b) is boarder and (r) means they reside there. So in the case of Speicher, Lawrence, the father, was head, Raymond, his son, was a boarder. Thank you.
