THE BAPTISM of 5 recent converts, as a result of the services being held by Rev. MILLER of the M.E. church of this city, down at Lakeside, took place last Sunday, the immersion being made in the artesian reservoir on the David DODGE place. Rev. WALTZ of Grangeville conducted the services. Those baptized were Mrs. L. CRY, Harry FLETCHER, Mr.&Mrs. HARRISON and 1 other person. There was a large attendance at the ceremony. M.H. LOVELACE and wife, of Dinuga, are in Hanford visiting relatives. Mr. L. wears no beard now and a goatee remains to ornament (?) his face. It has made such a change in his appearance that his relatives and best friends do not recognize him on first sight. Mr. L. was a juror in the Si LOVREN case and we understand that he wore all the hair off his jaws arguing with the 5 recalcitrant jurors who, on the 1st ballot, wanted to acquit one of the worst criminals Visalia ever harbored. LLOYD, the son of R.R. agent FISH, was found by his parents in a convulsions last Saturday morning. A physician was promptly summoned and the child was soon better. Mr. FISH took his family to Los Angeles on Sunday to spend the summer. Mr. F. arrived home today. BEN McGINNIS was taken with an attack of rheumatism last Saturday morning and the store of McGinnis Bros. was closed for the day, re-opening on Sunday morning. His friends are all loath to part with him so soon, for he is a general favorite here. -Marky WALTZ, the 13-year-old son of Rev. WALTZ of this place, is quite clever with the pencil. He recently sketched an old lady and a young man who live here and everybody that saw the pictures pronounced them excellent likenesses. He has just finished enlarging a picture of his grandfather, which is really very good, considering that the boy has never had a lesson. -Last Friday was Fred NEWPORT's 13th birthday and his mother had invited some 30 of his young friends to surprise him by coming to spend the afternoon and evening with him. Some 28 responded and there never was a more surprised boy. Master Fred generally has eyes and ears open at such times, but so cleverly did his mother arrange the affair that the good things were all made without his having the least idea of it. The young folks all trooped in together and as soon as greetings were over, proceeded to enjoy themselvesÂ… LEMOORE LOCALS -- -O.E. CHASE is now filling the position formerly held by Wm.
