Then, after reviewing the past in well chosen words, he had them join their right hands, said the marriage ceremony and had them renew their marriage vows. With good wishes and many happy returns of the anniversary he then turned them over to Mr. John WORSWICK, who spoke the congratulations and good wishes of the audience, wishing that they might live long enough to enjoy their China wedding, their silver wedding, and on through the catalogue. DICE and his wife, who is a sister to Mrs. SMITH, went to SMITH's place to remove a small dirt dam to get some water with which to irrigate a small patch of alfalfa. Mrs. DICE got out of the buggy and began removing the dam when SMITH came out of the house and told her to let it alone. She did not quit, however, and SMITH took hold of her to push her away. A scuffle ensued, during which DICE claims a pistol was discharged, upon which he took his shotgun which he had in the buggy and killed SMITH. There had been a dispute for some time about the use of the water, DICE having permission from several neighbors to run the water while SMITH refused to let him have it. At the inquest it developed that the shot heard by DICE, and which caused him to shoot, proved to have been a rifle which had been set with a string to the trigger for the purpose of awakening SMITH if anybody should interfere with the dam in the night. In some manner during the scuffle the string was touched and the gun discharged. DICE thought that SMITH had shot at his wife and at once jumped out of his buggy and shot him. ------------------------------------------------------- LOCAL PARAGRAPHS -- -Mrs. Mary E.
