I believe that back in the "DARK" ages, men who weren't of good character, could committ their unsuspecting spouces for the most frevlious of reasons and no one doubted his reasoning, I don't know if it had to be a court order or a Dr. decisions...once read of a man committing his wife because she was "Barren" <childless>...if we could read the reasons why some of these evil things were done, perhaps divorce wouldn't have been that difficult....In 1903, there were 8 instituions in California..most were insane asylums...but a few were actually for the care of T.B. patients and lunatic's....by 2000, there are now 11 instituions, all but 4 are closed now and these folks are now the street people that we heard of in the 60's-70's....In Napa & Sonoma Co.'s, their patients went to Stockton for a long time until Napa State was built 1875. ~Linda~ Willow Creek, CA.
