He is a farm hand and has been employed in this county, working at different times for Perry PHILLIPS, Lee RICHARDSON, A.M. TAYLOR and others. He worked for Mr. TAYLOR 3 months last summer, but all of a sudden went away, without notice. He returned to Mr. TAYLOR's (the E. PICKETT place, a few miles east of Hanford) some 3 weeks ago, and applied for work. As he was a good hand and a hard worker, Mr. TAYLOR engaged him. On Wednesday night of last week, probably between 10 o'clock and midnight, WAYNE decamped, riding off a sorrel horse belonging to Mr. TAYLOR's daughter and a saddle belonging to his son. He also took a pair of spurs, bridle, etc. Mr. TAYLOR discovered the theft the next morning and at once notified Constables GOODRICH and BERNSTEIN. While Constable GOODRICH telephoned to officers at several places and got out printed descriptions of WAYNE and the stolen property. Constable BERNSTEIN and Mr. TAYLOR drove at once to Fresno, as they had good reason to think that LANGLEY would go there. The 2 men made a thorough search of Fresno for LANGLEY, but did not find him and started to drive home. When just coming out from the city who should they meet but the missing young man, mounted on the stolen horse and with all the rest of the stolen property in his possession. He was at once arrested and on Friday was brought to Hanford by Constable BERNSTEIN and placed in jail. Constable BERNSTEIN learned while in Fresno that the boy's name was Ralph LANGLEY and that his parents resided at Fresno. The boy had made for home as soon as he left TAYLOR's and spent 1 night at home. His folks are very nice people and they deeply regret the trouble which their eldest son has got into. He was known in this county as William WAYNE. The young man gives as a reason for taking the horse and saddle that his late employer, TAYLOR, owed him $30 which he would not pay, and he took the horse to Fresno to see his folks about suing TAYLOR for the amount due. LANGLEY now languishes in jail and his case has not yet been set for trial. ------------------------------------------------------ LOCAL PARAGRAPHS -- -Mrs. R.
