BIRTH -- BOLLIN -- In Traver, Cal., March 19, 1895, to Mr.&Mrs. Louis BOLLIN, a son. DEATH -- CALLOWAY -- In Hanford, Monday, March 25, 1895, Verne Griffith CALLOWAY, aged 8 months, 14 days. [Deceased was the nephew of Mrs. E.V. DEWEY, and fell a victim to that dread combination of diseases, measles and whooping cough, which caused the death of his little sister 11 days before. The funeral takes place at 2 o'clock p.m. today (Tuesday), at the Visalia cemetery, where the remains will be interred.] [from Local Paragraphs column] -- Jacquez FRAICHON died of paralysis in Huron last Thursday. He was a pioneer of the West Side, aged 65 years. His remains were interred in the Hanford cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------ LOCAL PARAGRAPHS -- -Mrs. A. YELL is recovering from a serious illness, pneumonia being threatened. -Miss Nellie BARNES has recovered from a severe attack of measles. -F.W. ISAAC has gone to Porterville to engage in business. -Miss EDWARDS returned to her duties as teacher in the public school last Wednesday, having recovered from her illness. -Wm. FLEMING has established a boot-black stand at the entrance of the Hotel Artesia. He has 3 chairs and is prepared to polish the boots of all Hanford. -John DAWSON, who has been suffering from La Grippe, was on the streets of Hanford again last Friday. -A daughter of J.H. MALONE, the school teacher, fell off a porch at her parents residence, SE of Hanford, last Thursday, and broke her shoulder bone. -E.P. DEWEY arrived in Hanford yesterday from Sanger to take his wife home, she having been ill here for several days. He went to Visalia today to attend the funeral of little Verne CALLOWAY. -E.H. RICE, the builder of lath fencing, with his wife and daughter, went to Selma last Thursday. His genial countenance is missed in town. -C.A. RICE of the State of Washington is visiting his brother-in-law, Stanley EDDY, near this city. He is about on crutches, owing to an accidental fracture of one of his legs by falling on the ice, just previous to leaving home. -Edward LINELY and wife of Chicago, who have been visiting the family of H.G. LACEY, left for home last Friday, going back by way of S.F. and Portland. -John FRANCES, formerly a subject of Portugal, renounced his allegiance to that country last Thursday and became a citizen of the United States. A.P. GOMES and A.J. MENDOSA were his witnesses. -Mrs. PERRY and her sister Miss Grace GIBONEY of Kernville, Kern County, are spending a few days with their old acquaintances, Mrs. IRWIN and Mrs. GROVES. -H.S. GOSSAGE, M.D., of S.F., brother of Mrs. E.R. HEALY of this city, has located in Visalia and opened an office there. -Wm. WILSON of Kings River was thrown from a horse last Sunday and sustained a fracture of the shoulder blade. CARRIE LEWIS, the colored girl who was brought to the county jail in Hanford, from Lemoore, and served a term for vagrancy, was adjudged insane at Fresno last Wednesday and was sent to the Stockton asylum. She is naturally depraved and was always in jail. She caused trouble in every jail by her noisy and obscene talk. She tore up her clothes and the blankets of her bed. The officers here were glad to see her leave. From here she went to Tulare, where she was arrested, served a term, and then drifted into the Fresno bastile. There she went through the usual performance, varying it a little, however, by turning on the gas and thus attempting to take her life. ------------------------------------------------------- GRANGEVILLE -- -Marin ROTENBURG left on Wednesday for his home in Austria. -Chauncey LANE is recovering nicely from an attack of the measles. -Mr. Newt AGEE returned from the city last Monday, he stopped over at Merced to visit his cousin Chas. AGEE whom he found well. -Mr.&Mrs. AWALT returned to their home at Summit Lake Tuesday, their daughter, Mrs. COLMAN, accompanied them and expects to stay a few weeks, and their son Elsworth will take his brothers place on the ranch. -Lem and William ALEXANDER, brothers of our esteemed postmistress, arrived this week from their visit to their home in Kentucky. They brought with them a few ears of white corn that are simply immense. They also brought some very fine tube rose bulbs, ferns and moss for their sister's flower garden. They certainly are about the finest of their kind that have been seen here for some time.
