One added bit of my worthless two cents worth - I liked being able to see 'snippets' of some of the articles - which I certainly checked carefully before I paid the yearly subscription. I am an Asst Genealogist in a family name Genealogical Society, I do monitor the current posted obits for folks dying with "THE" surname. I do also monitor legacy.com - GenealogyBank does have a different assortment of current obits from those posted at legacy, or thru Obituary Daily Times. Personally, I have huge family in San Jose. GenealogyBank has the paper for the early part of last century. I have read much of the pre-scandal from my great-grandfather, and was able to share with the rest of the family the ramp-up to the divorce. I find the service good enough that I have renewed at least once, if not twice. But, you can plug in your names of interest, see how many hits you get and based on that see if it seems worth while to you. Hope this helps all the folks assessing if this service seems to be useful to them or not... -----Original Message----- From: norcal-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:norcal-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jeanne Moody Sent: Wednesday, January 27, 2010 8:30 AM To: norcal@rootsweb.com Subject: [NORCAL] Genealogy Bank Does anyone use Genealogy Bank? Notice that you can quickly check the snippets - by clicking on the "Historical Newspapers" section and THEN doing your search. That brings up the snippets with no pitch to sign-up first. This lets you see the actual results on the page - confirming GenBank has your people before signing up.
